Rodge McDavid Obituary

The McDavid family is sad to inform Charleston friends of the death of RODGE McDAVID. Rodge passed away peacefully on February 9, 2024, at home in Pasadena, California from recent surgical procedures.
William Rodgers McDavid was born on May 2, 1964, in Columbus, Ohio. Soon after, Rodge and his parents, Bill and Margy, moved back to Charleston, where he grew up and attended John Adams Jr. High School, George Washington High School, and later graduated from the Darrow School in New York.
Rodge was preceded in death by Juana Filiano, the love of his life and by his father, Bill McDavid, who showed Rodge the most steadfast and non-wavering concern, support, and love throughout his life.
He is survived by his loving mother, Margaret "Margy" McDavid of Fort Myers, Florida; brother Brad McDavid (Sandy) of Urbana Ohio; sister Anne Haakenson (Dean) of Lyons, Colorado and stepmother Di Long of Gallatin, Tenn. Rodge also leaves his nieces and nephews, Will and Mary McDavid, Anni and Connar Haakenson. Brad may be reached at 937-243-2084.
Those of you who knew Rodge, know his life was mired in his personal struggles. What you may not know is that he flourished in the last 10 years of his life. Rodge was able to engage with his family the way all big brothers should. Rodge was able to visit Anne and family in Colorado; visit with Brad and family in Ohio, and his nieces and nephews got to get to know and spend time with their "Uncle Rodge."
A sweet example of his better times is when he, Brad, Anne and Dean met up and attended a Rolling Stones concert.
Rodge loved music, sports, and his coffee. He was a kind and caring man with a heart of gold. During the last years of his life, he participated with his family in McDavid Foundation distributions. Every year he would donate his share to go to City of Hope, a cancer treatment and research center, in Duarte, California. If you would want to make a charitable donation in his honor, contact Chief Philanthropy Officer at 1500 East Duarte Road, Duarte, CA 91010.
If you would like to honor his memory in the simplest way, be kind and caring to others who may not look like you or live like you; they are part of someone's family

I have many fond memories of playing music with Rodge. Throughout Junior High and high school we played in a band together. We weren't much good but we made a joyful noise. Please accept my sincere condolences. J
