VIRGINIA LOUISE "JIGGLE" JOHNSON

VIRGINIA "JIGGLE" LOUISE (HUBBARD) JOHNSON, 97, of Prenter, passed away peacefully in her home on July 28, 2023.
Virginia was born in 1925 in Olcott, WV, to Will and Annie Hubbard. She was a lifelong resident of the coal camp town of Prenter and lived in the same house since 1953. She overcame many obstacles growing up, including poverty and a speech impediment. She was a typical tough member of the "greatest generation" raised during the Great Depression and had an incredible work ethic. She served as postmaster for the town of Prenter for more than 30 years. She was a charter member of the original Prenter Freewill Baptist Church built in the 1940s with Rev. Ray Crum, and she taught Sunday school for many years. She had a wonderful alto voice, which she used in church and in several gospel groups during the 70s, 80s, and 90s. Even in her later years, she mowed her own grass, did home repairs, and kept active.
She was preceded in death by husband: Augustus (Chummy) Johnson, parents: Will and Annie Hubbard, sisters: Marie Meadows, Goldie Carothers, and Flora Buzzard, brothers: Willard "Bowser" Hubbard, Pete Hubbard, Estel "Red Top" Hubbard, and Jesse Hubbard.
She is survived by son: Jackie (Pam) Johnson and granddaughter, Hannah (Andrew) Kennedy, whom she adored.

A private graveside service will be held at a later date. Leonard Johnson Funeral Home in Marmet is in charge of arrangements.
