Bernard Jean Obituary

EAST BERLIN Bernard J. "Bernie" Jean, 42, of Lake Meade, East Berlin, Pa., passed away suddenly Tuesday, April 29, 2008, at University of Maryland Medical Center, surrounded by his loving family and devoted wife and daughter. Bernie was born September 4, 1965, in Athol, Mass., the son of Roland L. and Rita E. (Labrie) Jean, Sr. of Wendell, Mass. He was a graduate of Ralph C. Mahar Regional High School in Orange, Mass., where he was the president of the Fish and Game Club and a recipient of the Fountain Award. After high school, he worked for the Vegetation Control Service and Erving Paper Mills. For the last 17 years he was employed by the Graham Packaging Co. in Atlanta, Ga., New Orleans, La., and York. He was recently promoted to a New Product Development Engineer and traveled internationally for his career. Bernie was a dedicated husband and father who enjoyed boating at Lake Meade, hunting, fishing, and camping with his wife and daughter. He cherished his time spent fishing on the Quabbin Reservoir and passed his love for the outdoors to his daughter. He was an avid racing fan and served as crew chief for Massey Motorsports in Douglasville, Ga., for many years. Bernie is survived by his loving wife, Lisa (Geikie), and daughter, Abbey, who were the most important part of his life and his loss will leave a great void. Bernie made lifelong friends wherever he went. He will always be remembered for his great sense of humor and his willingness to help others. He continued to help others after his death by being an organ and tissue donor. In addition to his wife, daughter, and parents, Bernie is survived by his brother, Roland L. Jean, Jr. and his wife, Lisa, and their children, Cody and Haley of New Salem, Mass.; a sister, Diane M. Williams and her husband, Hays of Worcester, Mass.; a paternal grandmother, Beatrice Jean of Athol, Mass., and many close aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. A visitation will be held Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Feiser Funeral Home, Inc., 306 Harrisburg St., East Berlin, with a Christian Wake service at 8 p.m. A Memorial Mass will be held at a later date in his hometown of Orange, Mass. such letting go is love
such love is faith

A heartbroken friend

May 12, 2008

Bernie,
They say there is a reason,
They say that time will heal,
But neither time nor reason,
Will change the way I feel.
For no one knows the heartache
That lies beyond my smile,
No one knows how many times
I've broken down and cried,
I want to tell you something,
So there won't be any doubt,
You're wonderfull to think of,
But so hard to be without.

To Lisa and Abbey as well as Bernie's immediate and extended family,

It is difficult to imagine life without Bernie in the driver's seat. He was a force of nature, supremely confident and oh so strong. His absence leaves a great void and Life will never be the same. Yet, thankfully, he also leaves us his legacy of great love, strength, wisdom and spirit ... these will last forever.

All my love to you, with fondest memories of him, Aunt Elyse

Lisa and Abbey, my thoughts and prayers are with you both as you go through this terrible loss. Bernie was the kind of person who touched the lives of all who knew him in a special way. I have wonderful memories of him at Relay for Life, the art auction, working in the outdoor classroom, and pitching in to do anything that was needed for the kids at Magnolia Trace. He always had a wonderful smile for everyone, and a great sense of humor. His family was the most important thing in the world to him. I can't imagine what you are going through now. Bernie was such a special husband and father. He'll be missed by everyone, but especially by his two girls. I know his job of caring for you on this earth was cut way too short, but he must be watching over you from Heaven now. You are in my thoughts and prayers. I miss you guys.

Lisa,

My thoughts and prayers go out to you and Abbey. There is a photograph I walk past every day of Bernie, Roland, my brother Paul, Scott Parker and Bobby LeClaire when they were the Mahar Fish'N Game Club Trap Shooting Team and defeated Athol. Bernie is flashing his trademark smile. It brings me so many memories of Bernie as a young man. It is obvious that Bernie the husband, father, worker, neighbor and man was very special and those who knew him were better for it.

Abbey,

Right now you know your Dad was a good man and father. You will some day know how really special he was.

A great brother and friend. Bernie always lived life to the fullest and I know he is watching down on his family and friends that he loved so much, and is wanting us to do the same..
We should all take comfort in knowing his smile, laughter and love of life will live on Abbey forever.

May 3, 2008

Dear Lisa and Abbey,

Someone once said, Love is stronger than death even though it can't stop death from happening, but no matter how hard death tries it can't separate people from love. It can't take away our memories either. In the end, life is stronger than death.”
None of us can imagine the difficult time you have both been through and the sorrow you both must feel at losing Bernie. We remember him so fondly from our days in Mandeville and what a nice man he was. He was always there to help us in our efforts to do good things in our school and community. I recall clearly that he had a wry sense of humor and good work ethic. He was especially proud of his hard-working and wonderful wife and smart, pretty daughter. The Bernie we knew would want you to be strong and live your life to the very fullest!
Take care, Siobhan, Steve, Conor and Caitlin Trotter. (Surprise, AZ- formerly Mandeville, LA)

Auntie Lisa and Abbey,
I wanted to share with you part of an email that one of my good friends sent me.
"My condolences to your family. Please let us know if we can do anything. I read the article and it sounds like your uncle was a wonderful man. It seems like the best always go so young. Last night there was a really great quote in the book I am reading saying something to the effect of, those who are meant to die young have a strange premonition of the shortened hours...and this lends their short life a kind of intensity that others don't have. It struck me how true that is. Anyways, I hope you remember the good times and keep him in your heart. Lots of Love, Sita."

I miss and love you both,

To all of Bernie's family
you are in my thoughts

“Letter From Heaven”

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all what God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

Lis & family,
What a terrible loss for you, Abbey, and the Jean family. Sometimes you have to wonder what the big guy upstairs is thinking when unfortunate situations like this happen to good people. Bernie certainly was one of the good guys. I have very fond memories of spending time with him back in the (awesome) ‘80s. I’m so thankful I had the opportunity to know him! Please know that you and your family are in our thoughts and prayers.

Dear Lisa & Abbey~

Please know that you are both in all of our thoughts & prayers at this difficult time. We will never forget the days we enjoyed together as your Lazy Creek neighbors. I still have visions of Bernie
bravely "swashbuckling" the water mocassins in the canal behind our house, keeping us all safe from our worst fear! I remember you telling me one time that you'd told Abbey some of the reasons that you married Bernie...that he was strong & made you feel protected, kind & had a good sense of humor. These are all traits that he has passed down to Abbey & always remember he lives on through her & that is the greatest gift that one can leave to this world! We love you both~

One of the best memories I have with your Dad was when he tried to build us the "CarWash" truck for our 3rd grade talent show. He worked so hard on it all day and we just sat back and laughed. Dear Lisa and Abbey,
My utmost thought at this time is how much you and Abbey were loved by Bernie and how you guys loved him. You and Bernie always seemed to be on the same page and Abbey was your bookmark. When family and friends are not around always rely on your memories and knowledge of that strong bond and the love you guys shared and the importance of your daughter. Bernie was such a good dad and loved Abbey so. A special memory of mine is of Bernie and Abbey at my sister's for the annual "Dove Hunt". All of our love and continual prayers are with you, Abbey, and your family.

condolences on your loss. Bernie was one of the nicest men I have ever had the priviledge to work with, He talked of you & Abbey all the time and how much he loved you both. You were the light of his life. I know this is a difficult time but always remember the good times you shared together.

Lisa and Abbey,

Words cannot express the sorrow I feel for you both at this time. Bernie's devotion to family and friends, his quiet intelligence and witful nature will be missed by all of us. Your family has touched ours forever. We love you and hurt for and with you. Your strength and love will help you through this traumatic time, of that I am sure.

You are both in our hearts.

I didn't know Bernie all that well but, Lisa you always spoke to me about him and I know he will be greatly missed by you and Abbey. The three of you were the perfect family. I know you have a long journey ahead and I can't imagine the pain you are feeling. Remember all the good times you shared together and as a family. Memories last forever. My thoughts and prayers are with you and Abbey.
