Margaret Dooley Obituary

Margaret D. Dooley
YORK
Margaret D. (Peggy) Dooley, 87, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Saturday morning, September 30, 2017. She was married to Vincent J. Dooley for 39 years prior to his death in 1990.
Peggy was born September 4, 1930 in New York, NY. She was the daughter of the late William J. and Margaret (Murphy) Kuhn. She graduated from Forest Hills High School and worked briefly in the office of Thomas' English Muffins in New York City. After getting married she stayed at home, raising her children in Lindenhurst, NY. When her children were in high school she returned to the workforce, retiring in 2000, after more than 20 years as a bookkeeper for Sport Set Athletic Club in Syosset, NY. Peggy then moved to York to spend her retirement years near her grandchildren.
Peggy very much enjoyed her retirement in York. She loved knitting, playing bingo, cards and dominoes with her friends. She also was thrilled to be able to attend many of her grandchildren's activities and sporting events while they were growing up. Peggy was famous for her delicious chocolate chip cookies, which she baked for every family occasion. Peggy's children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were her pride and joy, providing her with happiness throughout her life.
Peggy is survived by three children, Peggy Beal (Bud) of York, Alice Dooley of Lindenhurst, NY and Kevin Dooley (Carol Cocchiola) of Binghamton, NY; five grandchildren, Maggie Elligson (Rob) of Parkton, MD, Sarah DeLuca (Joe) of Red Lion, Michael Beal (Anna) of Baltimore, MD, Patrick Beal of Baltimore, MD and Alex Peffley of Binghamton, NY; and six great-grandchildren, Sam, Connor, Kaitlyn, Hannah, Malena and Sophia. Peggy is also survived by a brother, Paul Kuhn of Larchmont, NY; a sister, Helen Long (Richard) of Placitas, NM; a sisters-in-law, Patricia Kuhn of Houston, TX, and Martha Kuhn of Bel Air, MD; as well as many nieces and nephews. Peggy was preceded in death by her infant daughter, Ellen; three brothers, Bill, George (WW II) and Jeff Kuhn; and one sister, Betty Petrus.
A visitation will be held from 10 to 11 a.m. on Thursday, October 5, 2017 at St. Rose of Lima Roman Catholic Church, 950 W. Market Street, York. The Mass of Christian Burial will begin at 11 a.m. at the church with The Reverend Daniel Richards as celebrant. Heffner Funeral Chapel & Crematory, 1551 Kenneth Rd., York, is assisting with the arrangements. A memorial gathering will be held in Lindenhurst, NY prior to burial with her husband, Vincent, in Pinelawn National Cemetery, Farmingdale, NY.
The family is extremely grateful and thankful to everyone at Autumn House West and Grane Hospice for the loving and compassionate care provided to Peggy during the past year, particularly in the last weeks of her life.
Donations may be made in Peggy's memory to St. Rose of Lima Church.

I will miss her sense of humor and her love of jigsaw puzzles. My favorite memory is when she wanted to get one framed, it fell apart outside, and my two sons helped put it back together with her help!!! A lovely lady. She will be missed.

Dear sweet Peggy! I started cleaning for her when she moved to York and we continued cleaning for her up until she moved to the Autumn House. We shared many conversations and she taught me how to make those delicious chocolate chip cookies she was famous for. We talked about anything and everything. She was most proud of her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. I would sit and talk to her sometimes for an hour after i was finished cleaning. I'd sometimes take her food i made and she was always giving us some of her cookies. We loved Peggy dearly and she will always be in our hearts. She was one of the nicest women I've ever known. We were very thankful to her daughter Peggy for asking us to clean for her mother because she was very special to us, as are the entire Beal family. What a special family. Jesse and I pray for all of you that you find peace in remembering all your special times you had with your mother and Nana. God Bless you all. With Love, Julie and Jesse
