Viola J.A. Preston

YORK Viola "Jackie" Jacquard Ann Preston, 81, was called home by her Lord on Monday, December 22, 2014, from Manor Care Dallastown. She was the widow of Robert Amos Preston, Sr. and longtime companion of the late William Joseph "Duke" Fields. Born April 1, 1933, in Merry Hill, N.C., she was the daughter of the late William and Serena (Outlaw) Smallwood. She attended Wm. Penn School, was employed in her family store, as a housekeeper, and at Danskin. Jackie enjoyed crossword puzzles, reading books and newspapers, and was an avid card player. She leaves to cherish her memory children, Charles "Peewee" (Bonnie) and Keenan (Dorothy), both of York, Thomas (MaryLou) of North Carolina, and Vinita Hayes (Sherman) and Mae, both of York; daughters-in-law, Tammy and Tracie; and siblings, Ernest Smallwood (Anne) of Texas, and James "Lock" Smallwood (Marionette), William Smallwood (Margaret), and Evelyn "Ruth" Spells (Wilbur), all of York. She was blessed with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. She was preceded in death by sons, Robert A., Jr., and Barry Lee (Esther); and siblings, Willie Mae Riddick, Vica "Pauline" Hawkins, Cora Christie, Clara Frost, Margarette Jacobs, Emma Lowe, Almarie Smith, and Samuel "LeeBoy" Smallwood. The Homegoing Services will begin at 10 a.m. on Monday, December 29, 2014, at Bethel Commandment Church of the Living God, 1000 S. Queen St., York 17403 with Elder Anthony Pinkney officiating. Gladfelter Funeral Home, Inc., York, is entrusted with the arrangements.
