William H. Willing
York - William H. "Bill" Willing, 95, died Saturday, June 16, 2018 at Rest Haven York. He was the husband of Ellen (Gotwalt) Willing and the late Barbara (Smelzer) Willing. Ellen and Bill celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary on May 14, 2018.
Born January 11, 1923 in Nanticoke, MD, he was the son of the late W. Harrison and Kathleen (Vickers) Willing.
Bill was a veteran of WWII serving in the U.S. Navy and received the Navy Unit Commendation Ribbon. Bill retired as a plant manager of the Hoist and Crane Division of ACCO Babcock, Inc.
He was a graduate of the University of Pennsylvania, Wharton School of Business. He was a member and Chapter President of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE). Bill was a member of First Presbyterian Church, York, and past member of Service Corps of Retired Executives (SCORE) where he was on the Board of Directors. He was an avid golfer and gardener. Bill and Ellen would winter in Naples, FL for many years.
In addition to Ellen, he is survived by his daughter, Diane E. Willing Hellekson and husband, Ronald of Veneta, OR and Linda F. Willing and husband, Nicholas Drelles of Grand Lake, CO; a step-daughter, Susan Yancey Stich and husband, Matthew of Vienna, VA; seven grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his son, Donald H. Willing; and sister, Virginia W. Elliott.
A memorial service will be held Friday, June 22, 2018 at 11 a.m. at First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market Street, York, with his pastor, the Rev. Allison Beaulieu, officiating. A visitation will be held following the service in the Christine Thomas Hall of the church. A private burial will be held in Prospect Hill Cemetery with graveside military rites conducted by the York County Veterans Honor Guard.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church of York, 225 E. Market Street, York, PA 17403 or to the York Symphony Orchestra, Appell Center for the Performing Arts, 50 North George St., York, PA 17401.
