Shawn Dee Godfrey passed from this life to her eternal home, in Heaven, on Aug. 17 th ,
2023. Shawn was born in Okmulgee, OK to George Carl and Betty Jean Smith on May 8 th , 1956.
Shawn graduated from Okmulgee High School. She was a small-town girl with a close-knit,
loving family, and strong friendship ties. These deep roots are what formed her honesty,
compassion, and her integrity throughout her lifetime.
Shawn's restaurant career started locally and eventually took her to Tulsa, OK and the
Dallas, Texas area, but because of her love of tropical places, she moved to Hawaii for ten years.
She then moved back to southern California where she worked for Las Brisa's Restaurant in
Laguna Beach. There she was promoted to General Manager of Topas Café, Bowers Museum,
and Kachina Restaurant. Shawn built many lifelong friendships. Her fun loving and sweet
personality attracted lifelong friends wherever she lived. After losing her dad in 1996, Shawn
decided to move closer to her family, to help care for her mom, Betty Jean, brother Eric and
sister Carla. She made her home in the Fort Worth area.
Shawn became the Manager of Hooters Restaurant in North Richland Hills, Texas for
many years. Her employees affectionately called her "Mama Shawn".
Shawn was also a founding member of The Patriots Motorcycle Club in Texas. By 2013,
Shawn had returned to Okmulgee, OK to help take care of her mother Betty Jean in the later
years of her life. Around this time, Shan noticed a handsome man mowing the lawn adjoining her
mom's back yard. Shawn loved gardening and would see the man next door and wave. They
finally introduced themselves and soon were sharing kisses and "fence dating". A true love story
was born.
Shawn and Raymond dated for the next two years and on November 25 th , 2017, became
husband and wife, to which they made their home in Okmulgee. Shawn and Raymond loved to
travel, garden, camp at all the local lakes, fish, and take care of their pets, Scooter & Mia.
Shawn was known to enjoy a little gambling at the casino, hoping to hit the "Big One" on
the penny slot machines. It is with a heavy heart we say, "Until we meet again". It is not the
length of life, but depth of life. She jumped into life and never touched the bottom.
Shawn will be remembered for her infectious laugh, her radiant smile, and her pure
sweetness to every life she touched. Shawn is survived by her husband, Raymond, of the home,
brother, Eric Smith of Wylie Texas, sister, Carla Jean Smith of Okmulgee, special niece,
Shayleigh Smith of Wylie Texas, nephew, Garrett Smith and wife Tina of Okmulgee, niece,
Randi Snyder and husband Allen of Okmulgee, OK, niece, Lindsay Briscoe and husband Tyler
of Dallas, TX, and many friends.
Thank you, Carol and Lori, for being her special friends.
