Linda Young Obituary

Linda Louise Young, 68, left this earth for a permanent home with the Lord on February 26 2012. Her late parents, Virginia and Russell Drumm were residents of Yuma, AZ. However she was born in Napa, CA on February 17, 1944 while her mother was visiting family. She spent virtually all her life in Yuma until moving to Show Low 1 ½ years ago.
Linda attended Yuma schools and graduated among the "top ten" in her graduation from Yuma High School in 1961. During her senior year while doing what many teenagers did, "cruising" 4th Ave, she met a young marine named John Young and a life long love ensued. Linda attended Arizona State University but her love for John brought her back to Yuma to begin their life together. They were married in 1963. They were married 47 years when John passed away. Linda and John enjoyed many hobbies together where they met dear friends. They were part of the Yuma Jeep Club, went to the dunes and El Golfo with ATVs and dune buggies, and participated in numerous car shows, rallyes and fun runs. Additionally she had many friends within the Beta Sigma Phi sorority.
She was both a career woman and mother. Linda began working for the US Border Patrol in 1966. When illness forced her retirement she had been with the USBP 44 years. If not for illness she would still be there. During her career she earned several promotions and awards for her top performance. She was thrilled to get the opportunity to meet President Bush when he visited the Yuma Border Patrol. Family was top priority for Linda. She helped whenever and however she could. At a family reunion a young cousin once said "I bet under her blouse she has wings and under her hair a halo". Linda attended all bike races, soccer games, and softball games of her kids. She never missed one. When her kids married, she couldn't wait to have grandchildren. She liked to have them all at her house at the same time. She even had a front license plate that said "DQ Express"
Linda is survived by her daughter Stephanie (Alex) of Show Low; her son John (Denise) of Yuma; grandchildren, Sydney, Alex, John Wessley, Sophia, Jacob, Jace, Sage and Jarrett; as well as her brother Rusty (Linda) of Vail. Preceding her in death were her husband John; mother Virginia; father Russell, and sister Barbara.
Services to be at Johnson Mortuary chapel with visitation at 10:00am and service at 11:00am. A celebration of life will follow. The U.S.B.P. will be honoring her with an agents serving as honorary watch and pallbearers.

To Rusty and the Young Family,

We were deeply saddened to hear of Linda's passing. In all my 30 years with the U.S. Border Patrol I never met any sweeter lady than her. When I was an Assistant Chief on the Yuma Sector staff, Linda was "our rock" when it came to personnel matters. She always had the answers for us. We know she is now happy to be reunited with John and is a better place. We will never forget her lovely smile and personality.

God Bless,
Kenny and Becky Morris

I felt moved to sign Linda's guest book even though I haven't seen her since high school. I remember her so well, and we have some things in common. I,too, graduated from YUHS in 1961, as part of at least the "top ten" percent, and I remember "cruising 4th Ave" like it was yesterday. My sincere condolences to her family.
