On behalf of the Department of Hearing and Speech Sciences at the University of Maryland, we send our heartfelt sympathies to the Van der Have family. We feel truly blessed to have crossed paths and see the true meaning of family. May the stars carry your sadness away, May the flowers fill your heart with beauty, May hope forever wipe away your tears. And, may your memories remain close at heart.

Dearest Friend Rink:

I will always remember February 12, 1965. You were both so young and happy. God gave you to each other for forever that night. Instantly, it's like it was yesterday on East 85th Street.
Much love and sadness,
Bobby K.

Rink, I can’t express my sadness and sorrow on the passing of your wife Marita. “To God we belong and to God we shell return” The Quran. May God grant you and your family the patience, peace, and help you bear such a loss. May God’s grace and mercy be yours always.

Sincerely,

I did not know Marita personally, but I see how she touched the lives of Dan, Vanessa, Chase, Drew and Claudia. You all are so lucky to have had such a wonderful woman in your lives, and also blessed she did not have to suffer too long with her cancer. If you need anything at all, including a babysitter to just get a break, let me know.

Marita was a beautiful person both inside and out. Her dignity and courage have inspired so many people, and I am grateful to be one of them.

I was a child when I knew Marita, and I have to say that it was partly her tenacity that helped me to become the adult that I am. I will never forget her, and am grateful that she was there for such a formative part of my life.

Marita was the most wonderful and joyful, positive thinking friend anyone could have. She will always be alive in our hearts, through our many memories of the shared adventures and times together over nearly 40 years.
