Christmas 1941 at my Grandpartents was a sad time because we didn't know the fate of those on the Arizona. My cousin's family lost Donald Caplinger.

Greetings,
My name is Thom Cicchelli an artist and photographer from Chicago.
I will be entering a photo I took while visiting the memorial at Pearl Harbor in this year's ArtPrize held in Grand Rapids, MI in the fall.
I would like to dedicate my entry to Lauren and if possible get a copy of his service photo to be included with my entry.
I can be contacted by email at: [email protected] if a family member would be so kind. We must never forget!
God bless this American hero.
Kind regards,
Thom

What a great legacy he leaves behind. Passing of a family member at any age is painful and leaves an emptiness inside of you. My prayers are with your family during this. I thank him and your family for your service to this country. May he rest in eternal peace.

I honor your service to this country, Mr. Bruner. You are truly an American hero! I teach middle school in Ohio and I will never fail to honor you and all the men of the USS Arizona when December 7 rolls around each year. It was young men like you that scaled the bluffs at Normandy (I take students there too!) and fought in the Pacific Theatre. You truly model what the American spirit of patriotism and love of country is all about. May you rest in peace with your fellow comrades in arms.
Ironically, when my husband, Lorin (also ironic), was in graduate school at Biola University, we owned a home in La Mirada, so even though I did not know you, I feel dually connected to you. Condolences and prayers to your family.

Dear Lauren, It was an honor and a privilege to have known you. You filled it so many unanswered questions about that fateful day that I never got to ask my Dad. You were a true hero in every sense of the word. Your smile and laugh were contagious and spread light wherever you were. From sharing beers at Smiths Union, to celebrating your birthday dinners, to celebrating Pearl Harbor Day with you you will forever be missed. I'll never forget that first phone call when I tracked you down and then drove to California to meet you. I will never forget you kind sir and I will make sure the memory of Pearl Harbor carries on. 'Lest we forget.'

R.I.P. with your shipmates Lauren and may God open his arms to you and all your brothers.
I'm reading his book as I type and am proud of the courage he's showed in allowing his story to be told. It should be read by all who want to say Thank You to all those from his generation who served our great nation in the "War to end all Wars". Thank you Lauren for your service to our great country.

My Uncle was a true American Hero. He served our Country with pride and honor. He loved his time in the Navy and lived his life loving his Country. The scars on his body were a vivid reminder of what he lived through on December 7th 1942. He lived a long life and one of his special recent events in his life was returning to Pearl Harbor over the past several years to honor those who lost their lives on the USS Arizona.

Thank you for your service and fearlessness in carrying out your duties. As a resident of Arizona, I was so proud to read about all the survivors, was moved by my own visit to Pearl Harbor, and am glad that our newspaper, The Arizona Republic, does its best to keep the history of this event, and the people-side of the story in our consciousness. My condolences to Lauren Brunner's family, friends and fellow service members.

As the child of a survivor, I can relate to what its like to be raised by a member of the greatest generation. I wouldn't trade it for anything in this world. The greatest country in history and the cause of freedom will forever be indebted to Mr. Bruner and so many who paid such a high price for others.......Matthew 11:28-30.
