George Woodruff Obituary

George Cecil Woodruff III

January 4, 1953 - July 1, 2025

Columbus, Georgia - George C. Woodruff, Ill, a beloved and unforgettable member of the Columbus community, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving family and friends. Born into a family with deep roots in Columbus, George was the third generation to carry forward the vision of The George C. Woodruff Company, founded in 1916 by his grandfather.

George brought laughter and joy to everyone around him with his unique personality. He loved the Lord deeply and shared his faith with others through a spirit of camaraderie and humor. His boundless creativity shone through in his passion for painting, crafting remarkable art pieces, and woodworking.

He had a deep fondness for the simple pleasures of life. He loved fishing, hunting, yard sales, antiquing, skeet shooting, and cutting down trees--just to plant more. Everyone who knew him was aware of his love for chocolate, sweet tea, and coffee. His quick wit and humor could turn any moment into a memory, and he never missed a chance to share a good joke.

George had a deep love and shared respect for his wife, Laura, and in his later years, George found his greatest joy in spending time with his grandchildren. His humor, generosity, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife, Laura Holladay Woodruff; his children, George Cecil Woodruff, IV, Brooks Woodruff Edwards (Chris), William Pierce Anson Fisher (Tellana), Oliver Mark Anson Fisher (Tori), and his grandchildren; Madelyn Brooks Moore, Lincoln Hollar Edwards, Leif Hollar Edwards and Pierce Woodruff Anson Fisher and his sister, Julie Bond Woodruff. He is preceded in death by his father, George Cecil Woodruff, Jr.; his mother, Betty Jinks Woodruff; and his sister, Laurie Woodruff Waldrop.

A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 19, 2025, at 11:00 AM at MidTree Church, 13175 Georgia Highway 315, Cataula, GA 31804 with a visitation one hour prior.

I saw George recently and it was a pleasure to speak with him after so many years. I worked with him when he was building homes and enjoyed our friendship and work relationship. George was a lovable character and there will never be another like him.

Victoria Heller

July 10, 2025

My name is Victoria Heller and I lived in Columbus Georgia from 2000 until 2014 and I lived in two of Jorge Woodruff's properties. I lived in Walden Chase, which then became known as Walden Pond from 2000 until 2012 and then I moved to Sugar Mill and lived there for almost 2 years before returning to Miami Florida in April 2014. During a lot of of my time in Columbus I was a real estate agent and I worked for Cannon Parker And I did sell some homes for Mike so see so I knew him and I also was acquainted with Miss Sissy Duran Duran, who was very nice to me as well and also Tammy, who was one of the employees there. I can't remember her last name, but she helped me when a possum got into my apartment when I lived at Walden Pond and she helped me move to Sugar Mill because they could not catch the possum. Woodruff management is a wonderful company. I never met Mr. Woodruff in person, but I lived in two of their properties and I heard a lot about him and I'm really sorry to hear about his passing away. I heard about this on Facebook from Mr. Jed Harris who is a longtime friend of mine and who I still keep in touch with on Facebook, even though I now live in Miami. Please accept my sincere condolences on the passing of Mr. Woodruff, and please accept my apologies for any mistakes in this message as it is only because I am dictating and since I'm legally blind, and I'm using a screen reader, I cannot go back and correct these mistakes.
