Bumps of a goose were your gifts to accompany my
laughter of delight. I stared at my saxophone with trepidation and I became ferocious. Thank you

For Michael...a versatile and influential tenor saxophonist who won 11 Grammys over a career that spanned more than three decades.
WEEP NOT FOR ME
Do not weep for me when I no longer dwell among the wonders of the earth; for my larger self is free, and my soul rejoices on the other side of pain...on the other side of darkness.
Do not weep for me, for I am a ray of sunshine that touches your skin, a tropical breeze upon your face, the hush of joy within your heart and the innocence of babes in mothers arms.
I am the hope in a darkened night. And, in your hour of need, I will be there to comfort you. I will share your tears, your joys, your fears, your disappointments and your triumphs.
Do not weep for me, for I am cradled
in the arms of God. I walk with the angels, and hear the music beyond the stars.
Do not weep for me, for I am within you;
I am peace, love, I am a soft wind that caresses the flowers. I am the calm that follows a raging storm. I am an autumns leaf that floats among the garden of God, and I am pure white snow that softly falls upon your hand.
Do not weep for me, for I shall never die, as long as you remember me...
with a smile and a sigh.

My heartfelt sympathies to the family and friends of Michael Brecker. He was one of the greatest of all time, a consummate musician who will be enjoyed and studied as long as human beings appreciate good music. I have loved his music since first hearing him on Donald Fagen's album, "The Nightfly". I saw him live many times, with his brother, with Herbie, with Paul Simon, and with his own band. One time,at a Headhunters show, a friend of mine was so blown away by Michael's playing of the EWI that he fell out of his chair and rolled around in the aisle. You can't get a better review than that.
GOD BLESS YOU MICHAEL BRECKER
THANK YOU

My most heartfelt condolences to Michael's family and closest freinds. I will certainly miss him and his amazingly powerful saxophone playing. I was honored to get to meet him on several occasions and to hear him was a gift as well. He was one of the most genuine, sincere, humble and beautiful human beings I have ever known. God bless you, Michael and rest ever peacefully.

Even though I am 'only' one among numerous admirers of Michael Brecker I feel extremely sad that the world has lost the greatest magician of the sax and the EWI. - Certainly the greatest loss for those who know that all his wonderful recordings cannot match the brilliance of his stage performances.

I was very very saddened to hear of Michael's death.
I have been a fan and follower of his music for many years and even had the pleasure of meeting him at a gig at Iridium (NYC) in 2003 where he played with McCoy Tyner. He was an absolute joy to watch and listen to and Im very sad that that privilege has been taken from us.
My thoughts go out to his family and friends.x

I'm so sad for Michael's family and friends....Sue, Randy, Sam and Emily.
I was a clarinetist (classical) who eventually switched to the sax. A fellow friend and guitarist (Jon Geary) lent me a Pat Metheny record many, many years ago featuring Michael Brecker doing some herculean solo's and I became a total fan!
I was hooked instantly. Bought every record he made for a time.
Saw him here in Mtl. several years ago. Just mesmerizing to here and watch! Real genius!!
This is truly a super sad day for sax players everywhere, but really devastating for family, friends and colleagues. My thoughts are with them.

Although Michael Brecker was, first and foremost, an accomplished jazz performer, he also has a link to one of rock music's most legendary albums, and there's a terrific story behind it. In 1975, Michael and Randy were in on the sessions that produced Bruce Springsteen's watershed masterpiece, "Born To Run". Specifically, the Breckers were enlisted to play on the track "Tenth Avenue Freeze-Out", but the recording process deviated from the norm. Springsteen's then-new guitarist, "Miami" Steve Van Zandt, marched up to our heroes, the most experienced studio horn players in Manhattan, boldy announced, "OK, boys, put those charts away", and then proceeded to SING what needed to be recorded to Michael and Randy, who dutifully played the parts that harkened back to the Stax-Volt soul classics of the mid and late 1960s. But Michael worked with other rock artists through the years, and I had the good fortune to see him perform on Paul Simon's "The Rhythm Of The Saints" tour in 1991 when it made a stop in Iowa City (in fact, I event brought a rare first-edition pressing of "Born To Run" to the concert to have Michael autograph it before the show, but was turned away by one of the roadies backstage!) :)

Like the great tenor sax men who came before him, Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Paul Gonzalves, John Coltrane and Sonny Rollins, Michael Brecker defined the tenor saxophone for at least two generations of musicians. His sound often mimicked, but unmistakable nonetheless, was the sound of a giant. The legacy of Michael Brecker will be, "have something to say through the horn and say it with gusto." Thank goodness this consummate artist has left us with a fairly complete and well recorded discography. Many of the others did not. The great sadness is that he was taken so young and had so much more to contribute.

What an awesome player. This is a sad day for jazz. I will never forget attending the Brecker Brothers concert in Cleveland back in the 90s. What a tight band. It was the only time I ever saw Michael in person. I will greatly miss his exceptional sound. My thoughts go out to his family at this difficult time.

Jazz History is filled with great players, but only once in a generation, it seems, does one of the caliber of Michael come along. From Dreams, on to the Brecker Bros., and Steps Ahead, to his fantastic solo work, we were treated to some truly great compositions and solos. His tone was instantly recognizable, as all the other great tenor players were before him. In a way, I feel robbed because he was taken so young, but on the other hand, I’m so glad we all got to enjoy his immense talents for the last 35 years. No words can be spoken now that could comfort his family, but I hope they can find some solace in knowing how much he was loved by his fans.

I'm so sorry that we lost such a great man and musician. His music will stay forever with all fans of real jazz music in Poland. We also honor the struggle of Michael and his family to find a suitable treatment and the creating of a special foundation to help others who suffer from the disease. It won't be forgotten. May God bless his family and support them in these hard days of lost.
