Claudette Yamin Obituary
Yamin spokeswoman Monet Corso says Claudette Yamin died at Henrico Doctor's Hospital in Richmond on Monday night. The cause of death is not being released, but Corso says Yamin had complications over the last year stemming from hip replacement surgery.
Elliott Yamin came in third during the fifth season of the Fox television show. During that time his mother became a celebrity in her own right.

Elliott you and your mother are in my thoughts today. I was able to find her guest book to let you know that you are still in my thoughts and prayers. I know how it feels to loose your mom as I lost my mom many years ago and she is still always on my mind. Hang in there Elliott. You and your mom will reunite one day.

I was terribly saddened to hear of your dear mother's passing. I left your mother a phone message after your run on Idol hoping that you'd pursue your singing career. I'm sure she agreed. I have been through the loss of a family member myself many times over. I know the pain of losing not only a parent (my mother recently) but both parents as well as a younger brother. It's never easy to say goodbye but knowing that they are without pain and suffering and in a more beautiful place than we could ever imagine should put some peace in your heart and mind. Know that the spirit never goes away. You may have to open your eyes and really pay close attention to the smaller clues of her presence but I promise you that they are there. My young daughter talks & sees her grandmother often as well as telling me that her grandfather (whom she never met) tickles her. I know that you know, Elliott, that your mother adored you and will always support you in whatever you do in life. Pray and talk to her often and you will feel her with you on every step along the way. May you find peace within and be blessed many times over with your new guardian angel.

Elliott, I know it's been a while but I still pray for you for strength and peace in the loss of your precious mother. Diabetes alone - is a devastating disease. I know this has been a very sad time for you. Throughout your season on Idol I truly admired you and your mom and your devotion to one another. To The Yamin Family and Many Friends,
By the experience of the recent passing of my own mother this past Christmas, I know this is a very difficult time for all of you. I pray that you find strength in each other and in Christ. I'd like to share a thought that came to me out of the blue when I finally broke down and wrote my mother a goodbye letter (I had read that this would help in the healing process). It came at a moment when I smiled as I wrote about a fun time my mother and I had shared right before her passing. I smiled and then suddenly felt sadden by the thought of not being able to sharing more moments like that with her but this thought crossed my mind as soon as my face frowned and it has stayed with me every since. The thought was "know that whenever you smile or laugh that these emotions take place because the eyes of your Angel rest upon God's face." This was something that I had written in a poem for her and had given to her for her birthday. We had just tragically lost a young nephew of mine (her grandson) that we all were very close to and she had seemed the saddest of us all. It was something that I truly believed when I wrote it and somehow it had brought me the comfort that I so desperately needed. I guess what I'm really trying to say is that if you open your hearts and minds you too will be able to hear your mother whisper words of comfort as I believe mine done at that moment. May God bless you with the strength, courage and acceptance that you will need during this difficult time. You all are in my thoughts and prayer.

Elliot - I send you my sympathy at this time - I truly understand your special tie to your mom- I have that too - I'm so sorry you have lost her but just remember that she will always be with you in your heart and above watching down on you seeing all the success you have in your life and there will be a lot!!! your voice is a gift and she is a part of that gift! Peace to you and your family and may you find happiness again soon from those around you! You know mom's - they always want us to find happiness no matter what!

I watched with local pride as Elliott (& his mother) progressed on Amerian Idol. The Richmond area was so very proud of both of you. I know how hard it is to lose a parent, especially your Mother. She will always be in your thoughts and actions. She will be your angel looking over you. God be with you and give you peace.

Elliot, your Mother loved you so and you brought her so much joy. You were definitely my favorite American Idol because you were real, genuine and humble. Elliott loved his mother so much i know he is hurting right now i send my condolences..she was right there on every show with him cheering him on and he would always make reference to her being in the audience and she got the amer idol award God bless your family at this time

The only thing worse than losing your mom is losing a child. I lost my mom on Christmas Eve of 2000. The pain we experience is immense but, I promise you it will get easier to bear. My heart goes out to you and your family.
