Paul Yamin Obituary

Attorney Paul Yamin
4-5-2025
Devoted to his family, his country and the law.
WATERBURY - It is with profound sadness and broken hearts that the family of Attorney Paul Yamin, 85, of Daytona Beach, FL, formerly of Waterbury, CT, share the news of his peaceful passing on Saturday April 5, 2025, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer.
Born July 30, 1939, in Waterbury, CT, Paul was the beloved youngest child of John and Wadad (Mowad) Yamin. He was raised alongside his siblings, Joseph Yamin, Josephine Dahdah, and Evelyn Ross, in a close-knit family that instilled in him the values of hard work and perseverance. His parents, who migrated from Lebanon to the United States at the end of World War I, provided a foundation of strength and resilience. Paul's life was marked by pivotal moments that shaped his character and trajectory. The early loss of his mother at the age of nine instilled a deep sense of introspection, while his service in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War forged his discipline and focus. He served with the 3rd Marine Division in Okinawa, and he was a proud Vietnam veteran. His military experience solidified his commitment to education, leading him to attend the University of Connecticut and the University of Connecticut Law School under the G.I. Bill.
After graduating from law school, Paul embarked on a distinguished legal career as a litigator. He was known for his unwavering dedication to his clients and his assertive approach in the courtroom. For 31 years, he practiced law as a sole practitioner, earning a reputation as a formidable advocate. He was held in high regard, and while his aggressive style resulted in being held in contempt of court on three occasions, it also underscored his passionate commitment to his clients. Paul's commitment to his community extended beyond his legal practice. He was deeply involved in Waterbury, serving as Co-Chairman of the 1971 American Cancer Society fundraising campaign. He also served on the Waterbury Board of Aldermen and various commissions, including the Civil Service Commission, Library Board, and Welfare Board. In 2000, upon his retirement, Paul relocated to Daytona Beach, FL, where he resided for 24 years. He became an active member of Beth-El Synagogue, serving on its Board of Directors.
His greatest joys in life came from his family, his faith and the patriotic love of his country Paul had a wide array of interests, talents and accomplishments but above all though his greatest pleasures in life came from being a Marine, a father, grandfather and counselor of the law.
Left to honor his legacy and cherish his memory are his children; sons, Joseph Yamin and his wife Jennifer, Michael Yamin and his wife Michelle, and daughters, Ann Yamin, and Romiah Yamin, and a loving grandfather to his 12 grandchildren, all of whom reside in Connecticut and Maine. He also leaves behind many nieces, nephews and grand-nieces and nephews from Georgia to Florida to Arkansas. He instilled in them a love of learning, a spirit of adventure, and the importance of cherishing life's moments. His happiest days were spent as a trial lawyer, traveling extensively, and creating lasting memories.
Paul faced his diagnosis of pancreatic cancer with remarkable courage and grace. He approached his illness with a profound understanding of mortality, encouraging others to live life to the fullest and to find joy in every moment. He reflected on the importance of facing death with awareness and acceptance, emphasizing that it is simply the final phase of life. Paul will be remembered for his intelligence, his wit, and his unwavering spirit. SEMPER FI, COUNSELOR!
