Adam Cook Obituary
David Cook announced the Saturday death at the 12th annual Race for Hope 5K in Washington, D.C., where he was serving as grand marshal. The singer says the cause of death was a brain tumor.
Adam Cook was a lawyer from Terre Haute, Ind., who battled cancer for more than a decade. He famously cheered for his singing sibling in the audience of the popular Fox signing competition's seventh season in 2008.
Julie Henricks, a friend of the Cook family, said Adam Cook died at his Terre Haute home, where hospice nurses were helping Cook's wife, Kendra, care for him.
Henricks said she received a text message Saturday night from Kendra Cook saying that the family had gathered for a bedside vigil as Adam's condition worsened.
She said Adam Cook, an attorney also survived by the couple's 7-year-old son and 6-year-old daughter, had decided to stop his chemotherapy treatments early this year after they failed to help his advanced brain cancer.
"He was so sick and so worn out he just made that decision. That was his choice. It was because he was just so tired," said Henricks.
Adam is the eldest of Cook's brothers. A younger sibling, Andrew, also tried out for the show but didn't make it to Hollywood.

I know what it is like to watch a brother fight so hard to live and then to lose a suffering battle. My heart truly aches for your family and the long journey you were forced to take with Adam. His suffering is over yet yours continues as you grieve for him and what he went through. I pray with you that a cure will soon be found for this terrible disease that affects so many. My sincere condolences on the passing of your beloved Adam. His battle is over now, and he finally has peace. As one involved in the fight against pediatric cancer,though,I know that many of your toughest battles lie ahead as you work to create a life without Adam's physical presence. In hopes it might help somewhere down the road, I'd like to recommend two books: "90 Minutes in Heaven" and "Heaven is Real,"both by Don Piper. To describe each in any detail would take too much space here, but suffice to say that having read both & sent copies to families who have lost loved ones to cancer, I really think the first one will help you "picture" where Adam is (this might be especially helpful to the children), while the second might help you work through grief, as well as experience hope, peace and purpose during the darkest times, when they seem all but impossible to find. Lastly, I'd like to share with you words spoken by a pastor to comfort a young father whose 3-yr-old son was dying of an extremely rare cancer: "Always remember that you can never really lose something when you know where it is...."
Please know that Adam will be remembered for who he was, & not just as David Cook's brother. I pray, however, that David's fame will enable him to offer opportunities to the general public to help fight cancer in general, & in Adam's honor specifically. I know this already has begun, & I will watch for opportunities to do my part.

To the "Entire" Cook Family,
I am currently a close friend with someone who is going through the same form of Brain Cancer, it is currently stage 4 with a new spot which is inoperable. I commend you for allowing your Adam to make the decision that he did. I know it was not easy for you to accept. Your love and openness of your loss is comforting tho those who are dealing with the same issues. Thank you for sharing during this sad time in your life. I will pray for all of you and for Adam that he was welcomed to his new home where he can watch over his loved ones pain free and happy. Bless all of you!
