Amber Dubois Obituary
Amber Dubois vanished walking to school on Feb. 13, 2009, about 10 miles from where Chelsea was last seen in running clothes at a park. Amber's father noted their similar builds — 5-foot-5, thin, blue-eyed.
"We're hoping they're two separate isolated incidents," he said last week. "In the back of our minds, we know the possibility is so strong there is a connection."
Authorities found Amber's skeletal remains early Saturday in a remote, rugged area of Pala, a small town in the Pala Indian Reservation, which covers more than 12,000 acres in north San Diego County, said Escondido Police Chief Jim Maher. The county medical examiner's office confirmed the remains were Amber's through dental records, he said.
Police are investigating whether Amber's disappearance was linked to Chelsea's accused killer, John Albert Gardner III. Maher said a tip led officials to Amber's remains, but he didn't give any other details or answer questions during a brief news conference Sunday.
"This is an ongoing murder investigation, and any details, no matter how slight, would be inappropriate to reveal at this point in time," he said.
Amber's parents, Maurice Dubois and Carrie McGonigle, appeared distraught at his side. Maurice Dubois briefly thanked everyone who searched for Amber, particularly volunteers.
"They were the most dedicated people you could ever imagine," he said. "Without them, we couldn't have done anything."
Amber was last seen walking with a man about 200 yards from Escondido High School by a woman who used to drive her to middle school, according to her father. Another neighbor reported seeing her about 300 yards from school. She never appeared on school surveillance cameras.
Amber, who was active in Future Farmers of America, left home with a $200 check to buy a lamb. It was never cashed.
There was no physical evidence recovered, hindering early search efforts, her father said. Calls reporting sightings of the girl came in, but none panned out.
A candlelight vigil for the girl was planned Monday evening at Escondido High School, where she was enrolled.

I saw the story of Amber tonight and wanted to leave my condolences to her friends and family. No matter how long ago this occurred I’m sure it is fresh in everyone’s thoughts and emotions. Please know there are many of us who will remember her and you with love.

I did not know Amber but.... I read about her today. I cannot imagine the pain that you all have gone through. Your precious, wonderful daughter. How you must miss her... think of her every day. I ask that GOD will help you. Give you strength to carry on. I don't believe as most do about death. I believe she is sleeping.... awaiting Christ's return with HIS angels..... when HE will awaken those in the graves, when the trump shall sound and they that are in the grave shall hear HIS voice and come forth to everlasting life. They will be transformed and shall live with CHRIST for eternity. No more crying.. no more pain... no more dying. And HE shall wipe all tears from their eyes. Families will be united once again, never to part. Death has been swallowed up in victory.

Please accept my deepest condolences. Nothing will ever erase the pain in your hearts. You will miss your beautiful daughter all the days of your life. She will always be around you. I cannot find words to express the sadness I feel for all of you. I prayed for her safe return like thousands of other people. We all care about you and your beautiful Amber. No child should ever have to leave this earth the way she did, no parent left to mourn as you do. This is not the time to speak of laws being changed to protect our children, yet I must tell you when you are ready I will support every change you want to make.

The loss of Amber has left a hole in my heart that might never completely heal. My Mom never lived to see the day when Amber vanished, but all during her life she had simple advice for her children when they encountered such overwhelming sadness: She always said to me, "Cry, John. Don't hold back. It's OK to cry."

Amber, you were loved by all that knew you and touched the lives of so many all over the country. Through the sad time you brought together a community and made a country take notice of great change that must be made. One of your friends said that even when she was sad that you brought a smile to her face. Even through this great tragedy something good will be brought from this; aside from remembering who you were and the joy that you brought to so many that knew you; the laws against every sex offenders will be made stronger because of you. This has been tragic news to us so I can't imagine the depth of grief to you the family. Please know that there are many of us out there who share in your sorrow. Amber was irreplaceable and indeed a special person. She will be greatly missed.
Please take great comfort in knowing that the bible indicates she is sleeping (ecc.9:5) and that soon she is promised to be awaken just like Jesus did to Lazarus (John 5:28-29). At that time though the earth will be a beautiful paradise as it was originally (Psalms 37:9-11). Just imagine all the wonderful things you will have to tell Amber. But first imagine hugging her for a very very long time and expressing just how much you miss her.

The loss of anyone is always difficult, but it is even more challenging to cope when it is a child. Psalm 34:18 lets us know that "God is near to those that are broken at heart, and those crushed in spirit he saves". I saw her picture so often as I went from store to store and place to place, I prayed so hard that you would find her safe and sound. But it was not in God's plan. And though we don't always understand, I do know that now she is in a better place and will never hurt or be unhappy again. We are so sorry for the loss of your beautiful child. I saw Ambers heartbroken Grandmother on tv, it is so obvious how loved she was and is. May God comfort you as life continues until you hold your child in your arms in heaven.

Our circumstances differ yet only those of us who have lost a child can ever, ever understand
how we feel!
We lost our only 15 year old son Lucas in a tragic hit and run 1/29/10. The grief is stronger today than initally as reality has set in, people move on while the quiet truth of our loss unfolds.

To the Dubois family. I had been following this story, since Amber went missing, I was praying and hopeing that things would turn out different, God will never make mistakes, even though you all are going though it right now, just know that god is still right by your side though all this.
