God Bless the Perkins family for their great loss. Our family lived with the backyards facing each other for at least 20 years, before the Perkins family moved. I will always remember your father/husband as a nice, quiet man who took care of his family and his home. You all were clean and good neighbors. George Jr my prayers go out to all of you, for your lost of your sister and her kids also. Keep the faith.

To the Perkins Family..

May the Holy Ghost continue to comfort you all through such a loss. I, too, remember Bro. Perkins as such a sweet man. I will always remember the night at Pilgrim Rest after a program, when he was ready to go and he began to turn off the lights eventhough there were still people in the church. That was one of the funniest moments. He will be missed by all those who knew him. To the members of the Perkins Family who are also members of CFMA, remember that Earth has no sorrow that Heaven cannot heal.

To my dearest family, some things I'd like to say...
but first of all, to let you know, that I arrived okay.
I'm writing this from heaven. Here I dwell with God above.
Here, there's no more tears of sadness; here is just eternal love.

Please do not be unhappy just because I'm out of sight.
Remember that I'm with you every morning, noon and night.
That day I had to leave you when my life on earth was through,
God picked me up and hugged me and He said, "I welcome you."

It's good to have you back again; you were missed while you were gone.
As for your dearest family, they'll be here later on.
I need you here badly; you're part of my plan.
There's so much that we have to do, to help our mortal man."

God gave me a list of things, that he wished for me to do.
And foremost on the list, was to watch and care for you.
And when you lie in bed at night, the day's chores put to flight.
God and I are closest to you....in the middle of the night.

When you think of my life on earth, and all those loving years
because you are only human, they are bound to bring you tears.
But do not be afraid to cry; it does relieve the pain.
Remember there would be no flowers, unless there was some rain.

I wish that I could tell you all that God has planned.
But if I were to tell you, you wouldn't understand.
But one thing is for certain, though my life on earth is o'er.
I'm closer to you now, than I ever was before.

There are many rocky roads ahead of you and many hills to climb;
but together we can do it by taking one day at a time.
It was always my philosophy and I'd like it for you too...
that as you give unto the world, the world will give to you.

If you can help somebody who's in sorrow and pain,
then you can say to God at night......"My day was not in vain."
And now I am contented....that my life has been worthwhile,
knowing as I passed along the way, I made somebody smile.

So if you meet somebody who is sad and feeling low,
just lend a hand to pick him up, as on your way you go.
When you're walking down the street, and you've got me on your mind;
I'm walking in your footsteps only half a step behind.

And when it's time for you to go.... from that body to be free,
remember you're not going.....you're coming here to me.

I saw my grandfather the day before the storm happened, never knowing it would be my last time seeing him alive. We tried our hardest to get him to come along but he insisted on staying to watch the home he cherished. I'm so blessed to have had a grandfather as sweet as he was. I remember on my wedding day in April 2005, the wedding wasn't to start until 6pm and pawpaw was dressed and ready at 1pm. It was so funny then, because he was so excited and now I cry everytime I think about it. It still seem like its all just a dream and that I'll wake up and be able to visit him.Your family is torn by your death, we wish you were here with us. We all love you dearly and miss you so much. We know you, Auntie Everdia, and Catrina are in a better place, but the pain for us is unbearable. The three of you take care of each other until we all meet again. I LOVE YA'LL & MISS YA'LL.

Like a role model my grandfather was what everyone would want to have in life as a husband, father, grandfather, uncle, brother, and friend, my grandfather was a god sent man that no one will ever forget, he will be missed so dearly, but he lives on in my grandmother, my mother, my aunts and uncles. He left behind a beautiful wife and kids, but he lives on everyday in all of us, and everyone who was dear to him and knew him well. We love and miss you Papa, but we know we will see you again soon.

What can I say about my friend, Mr. George Perkins, Sr. He was a soft spoken, kind hearted, generous, God-fearing, family oriented man! To me, he was like my "other" grandfather.

Upon learning of his passing in the weeks following the storm, I was so hurt. Yet, in talking with his wonderful wife, Missionary Perkins, I was reminded that he lived a good life, he faithfully served his family, his church (Pligrim's Rest #1 B.C.), and most of all he served and loved God! That was assurance enough for me!

I'll always remember his passionate prayers at the church, seeing him ride that bike thru out the lower ninth ward, and most of all, him sending me to get his favorite cinnamon rolls!!! Those memories I'll cherish forever! He was a man that never met a stranger, and I was so blessed to be among those he so readily welcomed into his home!

To mother Perkins and my entire family, just hold on to the fact that God allowed him to pass thru our lives! His legacy, laughter, love, and his smile will forever live on! Hold on to that! Cherish that!

Bro. Perkins, I love you! Until we meet again..........

In My Pocket

I have memories in my pocket.
They rattle among the change.

My memories of you are treasures I carry wherever I go.

They are stored in bits and pieces, parts of a beautiful whole
They give me comfort when I think I am alone.

Yes, I have memories in my pocket, like so much other stuff I keep there.

But of all the treasures I have, it’s the memories of you that are the most precious.
