June Elizabeth Perkins, age 77, passed away peacefully on January 6, 2026, at home, surrounded by loved ones. Born in Media, Pa., June grew up between there and Cismont, Va. She later spent time living in Texas and Maine before making her way back to Palmyra, Va. She lived a life marked by intelligence, resilience, and devotion to her family.June was often described as the smartest person in the room-proud, strong, and unwavering. Those who knew her remember her warm smile, her comforting hugs, and the joy she found in playing cribbage with family and friends. She cared deeply about her children's education and believed strongly in the power of learning, discipline, and perseverance.She earned her MBA from Thomas College in Waterville, Maine, and built a successful career as an accountant. She taught at Thomas College and served as treasurer for the Fluvanna Chamber of Commerce. Outside of work, June was creative and thoughtful. She loved crafts, especially stenciling, knitting, and painting, finding both joy and peace in creating things by hand.June faced a 13-year battle with breast cancer with remarkable strength, determination, and dignity. Through it all, she remained steadfast and deeply committed to her family, embodying courage in both quiet and profound ways.June is survived by her beloved husband, Maurice Perkins; her children, Eric Thomas, Katherine Hua, and Anne Perkins; her cherished grandchildren, Claire Thomas, Morgan Thomas, Khai Hua, and Jasmine Hua; and her sister, Susan Baker. She was preceded in death by her son, Maurice Ward Perkins, whom she loved deeply and carried with her always; her brother, George Baker; her mother, Mildred Marie Baker; her grandparents, Mossie and Elmer Gries, and Julia "Lulu" and Edgar Gibson.
A service to celebrate June's life will be held at Preddy Creek Baptist Church on January 10, 2026, at 2 p.m. Her family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Prichard and the staff at Martha Jefferson Cancer Care Center for their compassionate care.
