Stephen Perkins Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by H.D Oliver Funeral Apartments, Inc. - Laskin Road Chapel on Feb. 20, 2026.
Stephen Isaac Perkins, 84, passed away peacefully to be with the Lord on Sunday, February 15, 2026, after an extended illness.

Born on July 29, 1941, in Battle Creek, Michigan, Stephen was the son of George and Juanita Perkins. As a young child, he moved with his family to Geneva, Ohio, where he was raised alongside his six siblings: Nena, Babe, Rose, George, Robert (deceased), and Mario. The values of faith, family, and service that shaped his early life remained with him always.

Following high school, Stephen proudly enlisted in the United States Navy. He served faithfully as a Chaplain Assistant until his retirement, offering steady support, compassion, and guidance to countless service members throughout his military career. His life of service reflected his deep and abiding faith.

While stationed in Seville, Spain, Stephen met the love of his life, Pilar. They were married in 1964, beginning a beautiful partnership that would span 61 devoted years. Together they raised five children: Maria, Rosie (deceased), Stephen, Gregg, and Lisa. He was a proud grandfather to Bradley and Alec, who brought him immense joy.

Stephen was a gentle and steady presence to all who knew him. He never complained, always wore a warm smile, and carried himself with quiet strength and kindness. A devoted member of his church, he lived his faith daily. He enjoyed watching old westerns, sharing a good "Dad joke," and spending time with his family-his greatest blessing.

Stephen joins in Heaven his beloved wife, Pilar, who passed away in November. He missed her deeply and is now joyfully reunited with the woman he loved so dearly.

He will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his servant's heart, his humor, and the love he gave so freely to his family and friends.

A joint Celebration of Life honoring Stephen "Buzz" Perkins and his daughter Lisa, will be held on Saturday, February 21, 2026, at 1:00 PM at Mennonite Providence Church, 5363 Old Providence Road, Virginia Beach, Virginia. A reception will follow in the church fellowship hall.
