Dwayne McDuffie Obituary
DC Comics says the Detroit, Mich.-native died Tuesday. His age and place of death were not immediately known.
McDuffie wrote comics for the New York-based DC and Marvel, including runs on "Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight," the Fantastic Four and the Justice League of America. He also penned several animated features, including the just-released "All Star Superman," "Justice League: Crisis on Two Earths" and animated TV series "Static Shock" and "Ben 10: Alien Force."
He founded publishing company Milestone Media in 1992.

I am sorry for your loss. It's a shame I never got to meet Dwayne in life but if I had I want to thank Dwayne for the inspiration he gave to my late son with the characters he created, co-created, published, and defended. My son passed away in May 2011 after being struck by a car in front of his high school. He aspired to become a comic book artist and writer and to be honest the inspiration of Dwayne's work was evident in my son's own was quite evident.
May angels stand vigilant and guide you to find solace.

I myself am a comic book character fan and I enjoyed watching McDuffie's charcter known as "Static Shock' on tv. I know we all look foward to a time when death and sickness will be no more. The Marvel Universe just got a little smaller, and there is no joy in Gotham today...My sincere condolences to the McDuffie family. It was initially reported that Mr. McDuffie was 49. In any case he left us far too soon and will be missed. In addition to being a fine writer Dwayne was a good person.

Dozens of writers & artists now have control of their creations because of Dwayne. Hundreds of people currently hold jobs because of Dwayne's efforts & creations. And millions of strangers are united in your loss. Dwayne has quietly left a legacy that will span generations, and continue to expand decades from now.
