Obituary for Mary Thompson McDuffie
Mary Thompson McDuffie, 78, of Bagdad, Florida, passed away peacefully on October 18, 2025, at 12:13 p.m. Born on September 22, 1947, in Jacksonville, Florida, Mary made Bagdad her home beginning in 1969, becoming a beloved and familiar presence in the community for more than five decades.
Mary lived a life marked by hard work, creativity, and generosity. Over the years she worked at Vanity Fair and IGA before fulfilling a dream of owning and operating her own hobby store, The Mery Mac, in Milton. Her home was known throughout the neighborhood as a place of welcome and warmth; many were fed at her table, where fish fries, deer dinners, and even turtle soup were served weekly-if not daily-to friends, family, and anyone who needed a good meal.
She was a talented and devoted craftswoman whose hands were rarely still. Mary enjoyed crocheting, oil painting, quilting, flower gardening, and bird clubs. She was also a proud member of the Milton Quilting Guild, where she shared her skills and friendship with others who shared her love for art.
Mary is preceded in death by her father, Andrew Thompson Jr.; her mother, Blanche Lee Fulford; her husband, David Charles McDuffie; her son, David Clay McDuffie; her grandson, Andrew Dwayne Kilpatrick; and her great godson, Iden Levi Davis.
She is survived by her daughters, Frances Regina McDuffie and Karalee Dawn McDuffie; her grandson, Dwayne Christian McDuffie; and her granddaughters, Amber Rose Ramsey, Ashley Christine Selridge, and Hannah Elizabeth McDuffie. She also leaves behind her great-grandchildren-Faith, Tessa, and Nicholas Van House N. Jr.-as well as her great godchildren, Thomas Davis, Miles Davis, Lilly Davis, and Clarissa Davis.
A graveside service will be held at Bagdad Cemetery with the service beginning at 2:30 p.m. Mary will be laid to rest in the community she loved and served so deeply.
Her legacy of kindness, creativity, and open-hearted hospitality will forever be cherished by all who knew her.
