I grew up with Ferlins name all around me. He was a friend of my Dad John T. Hodges Sr. My father was raised in Gumbo, MO near Leadwood, MO. My dad use to go hunting with him. When my Dad was in 11th great he quit school and joined the Merchant Marines with some others from Gumbo area. My Mom was born and raised in Leadwood, MO. Ferlin use to swing my mom in an old tire swing and sing to her. Mom would tell him when are you going to learn how to sing. His last free concert in Leadwood before he died Dedacated his song Wings of A Dove to my Mom Helene (Lucy), (Hodges), Sitze. They were good friends when they were young. I was raised in Elvins, MO and in 1954 I came down with Polio. I Belgrave he stoped by the Children's Hospital to see me with my Mom and Dad.

Ferlin Husky worked at the Forest Park Highlands after he came out of the Merchant Marines, at the Skeet Balls, I believe, near the photo studio where I worked at the Highlands in about 1945. He walked me home one night and asked me if I wanted to go out with him and his guitar and sit in at some bar or saloon and play and sing. I was too young for that. He went by the name of George at the Highlands. Years later I met his cousin, Homer Husky, when he was my manager at Walgreen and he confirmed Ferlin went by the name of George at that time.

MARVIS & FAMILY! FOR SOME REASON CHRISTMAS BRINGS MEMORIES OF FERLIN. I HAVE MANY FOND MEMORIES OF TALKING WITH HIM BETWEEN SHOWS AT THE "FLAME CAFE" IN MINNEAPOLIS. HE WAS SUCH A WONDERFUL PERSON. HE ENCOURAGED ME TO KEEP UP WITH MY SINGING, AND ALTHOUGH I NEVER BECAME A "STAR", LIKE HE THOUGHT I WOULD, I'VE ALWAYS ENJOYED PERFORMING. AND I ALWAYS INCLUDE AT LEAST ONE OF "HIS" SONGS WHEN I SING. WHEN I WAS A DJ , HIS WERE THE ONES I PLAYED THE MOST AND HAD THE MOST REQUESTS FOR. THE SUMMER OF 2010 WHILE VISITING WITH ORLO AND BETTY I HAD A GOOD TIME TALKING ABOUT ALL THE THINGS FERLIN SAID AND DID. IT WAS THEN I FOUND OUT YOU WERE MARRIEDTO FERLIN............I JOKINGLY TOLD THEM I WANTED THEM TO ADOPT ME, SO I COULD HAVE FERLIN AS AN UNCLE!!!!!! MAY YOU AND YOUR FAMILY HAVE A BLESSED CHRISTMAS, AND MAY YOUR MEMORIES HELP YOU THROUGH THE SEASON. A DEVOTED FAN SINCE THE EARLY 50's E SAUER BRAINERD,MN56401

Ferlin was my all-time favorite singer. Whenever a business trip took me to Las Vegas I first checked to stage shows downtown for performers. Will never forget the year he was at The Mint when I was there. After the show I was able to reach him on the stage, shake his hand and tell him, in person, how great he was . W.C. Its late April and I just heard of Ferlin's passing on 19th March from an old army buddy from 1960. I picked up on Ferlin in 1959 through 'Country Music Holiday' which supported Elvis' 'King Creole' here in the UK. It was my first introduction to C and W and his rendition of 'My Home Town', with his pronunciation of 'Teown' rather stayed with me!
In spite of my successful efforts in the barrack room, I never managed to get him across to the whole of the UK - their loss! And his record company never did promote him that well over here. I always meant to send him a fan letter but never did, except when I tried to write to him via his website, but it crashed.
I suppose I'll get the chance to say 'Hi' when I get over there.

Part of me died yesterday! Ferlin Husky and his music was part of my psyche. His songs were with me from the mid 50s till today. If my first child would have been a boy, I would have named him “Richard Ferlin”. “Wings Of A Dove”was the first song that my daughters heard after they were born Ferlin was one of those artists who helped take country music out of the backwoods and into the wide wide world. He changed it from a regional curiosity to a national phenomenon. Along with the late Faron Young he was one of my all time favorite artists. In a man’s lifetime many things are taken from him that he doesn’t want to part with. Ferlin’s passing is one of those things. But his music will always remain embedded in my heart. I consider myself lucky to have met him and seen him perform in person. Thank God he made the Country Hall Of Fame before he died. Rest in peace Ferlin and ride the “Wings Of A Dove”. This is going to be a hard thing to accept.
If these words seems disjointed I am writing the way I feel-emotionally distraught.
