Eva Ekvall Obituary
Her family said Ekvall died Saturday at a hospital in Houston.
Ekvall was crowned Miss Venezuela at age 17 in 2000, and the following year she was third runner-up in the Miss Universe pageant in Puerto Rico. She went on to work as a model, actress and television news anchor.
She also wrote a book, "Fuera de Foco" ("Out of Focus"), about her struggle with cancer, which included images by photographer Roberto Mata.
Ekvall's family said in a statement Sunday that her remains were being cremated in Houston on Monday and that a service is to be held in Venezuela once her remains are returned to the country.
She was married to radio producer John Fabio Bermudez and had a 2-year-old daughter.
Her death brought an outpouring of condolences from Venezuelans, including from some promin ent artists and politicians.
Ekvall's husband posted a photo on Twitter Sunday showing a close-up of his hand holding hers, resting on a hospital bed, with the words "Always together ... I love you wife."

Eva Ekval was truly an amazing person with so much talent the loss is clearly ours. Prayers fill our hearts and burst forth from our mouths to God asking him to let us remember clearly the love we have for this wonderful person gone from our lives never forgetting the joy we shared. Hebrews 6:10.

At this moment I'm watching Bayly's program when Eva was interviewed. Despite her illness at the time, she looked radiant and full of life and dreams. I can't believe that few months later she left this world. Beautiful woman, beautiful soul. Rest in peace forever!

My sincere sympathy to you and your family. She was a beautiful woman. Cancer does not descriminate about age. No matter what the government wants in ways of breast exams, every woman no matter what age should have a mammo. I know this because a co-worker also died at the young age of 29.
May God find her a special place with the angels and bestow peace in your heart.

I never knew Eva, but I want to share my condolences with the family. I am sad that she died at such a young age and battling with breast cancer. In Isaiah 33:25 says,
"And no resident will say: 'I am sick.' The people that are dwelling in [the land] will be those pardoned for their error."
I love this promise from our heavenly Father. We are all looking forward that we will never have to experience the pain of losing our loved one due to sickness.
