I grew up reading Jim in the newspaper and then watching him on Channel 11. It was always a treat reading his writing or watching him on TV. I moved away from Atlanta over 20 years ago and, on those occasions when I saw him on television in the years since, appreciated the chance to hear, once again, his well-crafted words and enjoy the evident warmth in his appreciation of sport itself and how sport enriched the lives of so many.
My sympathies to his friends and family

The Huber family is in my heart and prayers. Many fond memories from high school and junior college linger. Through Facebook, Jim and I reconnected. Our lives were touched through prayer when Carol was so ill and our daughter suffered a heart attack. This is just one example of how Jim's heart would grow so that there was room for everyone! Thanks Carol for sharing the "love of your life."

Jim was a unassuming person who treated
everyone with respect and honesty. He
was an excellent announcer who analyzed golf with the best of them. Jim will be missed by family and friends.

Always a winner. At age 5, Jim entered a coloring contest. He won the top prize of $5.00. I teased him later. He must have stayed within the lines. A privilege to have known him as a child. Gone too soon. Deepest sympathy to his family.

My heart is heavy. Jim was a great friend during my time in Atlanta and at CNN. The stories he told, on air and off, his way with words, his compassion and gentleness were just some of the things that made him such a great man. His humility was exemplified when he told me that he attended a Four Bitchen' Babes concert and Christine Lavin singled him out and told him what a fan she was. He was in awe and touched by that. He always had time to speak to a fan. Jim also had a great artistic talent and I'm blessed to own two pieces by Jim Huber.
I can just see him now, with Dan Young, one of his photographers who also died way to young, playing holes on truly "The Masters" course. Rest in Peace, Jim, My life is better having been able to call you Friend.

Hubes was the best writer I ever worked with. But as proud as I was to call him a peer, I was much more proud to call him friend. I remember watching the '81U.S. Open with him. I was for Tom Watson and he was for Jack Nicklaus. I jumped like Dominique when Watson pitched in on 17!!! I never let Jim forget he still owed me lunch from that day! Jim was simply the best!

Lynn and I are saddened by this news and will lift Carol up in prayer. Seeing Jim through the years at fundraisers for Egleston Children's Hospital was always enjoyable. His way with words on tv were unparalleled. A talent that will be missed.

Brook and I first met our neighbors Jim, Carol, and Matt when we moved to Atlanta in 1977, and shared many great times with an "inseparable" group of four couples. We will sorely miss our friend, and wish all God's blessings on him. We're sure Jim continues to tell his stories, but to a much larger audience.

When Jim Huber hired me to be the First Female Organist in the history of the NHL for the Atlanta Flames, I thought he must be nuts! But I was wrong, and he was a great boss with personality and always a class act for approx. 8 years we worked together. A lot of great memories, and I wouldn't have missed it for the world; and even the last time I saw him and Carol when I was living on Hilton Head before I had to move back home to care for my Mother for 10 years before her passing at 89. He will be sorely missed by the many who knew him personally and others. Can't believe he's gone too soon. Many thoughts and prayers to Carol and Matt. Sincerely, Lou Walker, Organist for the Atlanta Flames (1973-1980) (Oneida, TN)

I am still in shock. Jim and his wife, Carol, are/were good friends whom my family would see at different charity golf tournaments. A class act and kind gentleman, I always looked forward to hanging out with Jim and Carol at dinner and with Jim on the range and play a practice round when our schedules permitted. He and I emailed each other a couple weeks before Christmas and then I find out he has passed. We all lost one of the good guys, I'm bummed my pal has gone on to a better place but will think of him often, especially whenever I tee it up. Prayers to Carol and the family.

My family only met Jim Huber for one weekend, but it will be a weekend our family especially our daughter will never forget. She was playing in the Junior Golf League World Series at TPC Sugarloaf and the word got around that JIM HUBER would be there commentating and documenting the events of the junior golf tournament. Jim was so gracious and wonderful to all of those kids and made them feel as important as if they were players on the PGA tour. Memories that those children will carry with them forever. My daughter who is shy and doesn't talk much was interviewed by Jim. To our and her surprise he spotlighted her in his "Sense of Huber" article for PGA.com. What is so amazing and what makes Jim's essays and him so special and incredible, is that he captured her personality completely, although he had only talked to her for about 15 minutes. She will never forget as she says the nice man with the laughing eyes, because for one weekend she was a "golf star" because Jim Huber said so. She will cherish that feeling for the rest of her life no matter where life takes her. The country has lost a national treasure. My condolences to his wife, son and the people who loved him. I am sure he will be greatly missed.

May your hearts soon be filled with wonderful memories of joyful times together as you celebrate a life well lived.

I had the pleasure of playing golf with Jim on several occasion at the AAC over the years. If you were looking for a role model for a perfect gentleman and friend, you had to look no further than Jim. Jim always took the time to speak and never seemed in a hurry. He will be missed by so many.

I first met Jim in 1979 and he was a great journalist and such a class act. He only got better each and every year. His passion for what he did was clear. I used to listen to this Jim every morning on CNN while I was getting ready to go to work. Loved his master of the word and the way he could tell a story. He was the voice I loved to hear sports from as much as my hometown sports guy Sam. S.

We use to slide down a hill of gravel in cardboard boxes; write stories that Jimmy illustrated; laid in the grass, watched the clouds and made-up tales. Jim moved at the end of sixth grade and I never saw him again. Yet he continued to remain a fond memory in the attic of my mind. My sympathy to his wife and family.

We have been blessed to have Jim and Carol as our neighbors for the last nine years. Jim was such a talented writer, story teller and artist. He was also one of the nicest guys I have ever met. He would laugh at our crazy dog and kids. He would surprise the children with keepsakes from his travels and always had a kind, encouraging word. We will miss him dearly. Our hearts and prayers go to Carol and family.

Years would pass between bumping into Jim at some event or another. But..each time it was as if we had spent the last several days together. I had the PLEASURE of working with Jim at WGST during the last days the station played music and the first days they became Atlanta's News Station. He and "Skinny" Bobby Harper were hilarious together. I somehow got into the act at times as well because I was the overnight DJ and would occasionally be part of a bit the two would prepare. Jim was the perfect foil to Harper's rediculous(sic) sense of humor. But above all was Jim's writing. NOBODY could turn a phrase and deliver it better than he. That's why he vaulted to the stature he achieved. The world has lost one of it's GREATEST story tellers. That's all that Jim wanted to do was tell stories. Nobody did it better. Rest my friend. Tell Harper I said "Hello".

My heartfelt wishes go out to the Huber family. I had the pleasure of getting to know Jim "well" during the Grand Slam of Golf in 2003 in Hawaii. I will never forget the hours of coverage that he did for the PGA Championship. He was one of, if not the most, respected jounalists that surrounded the PGATOUR. His interview style was always professional and he had the uncanny ability to get more from you than you cared to share. I will miss him greatly.

I met Jim when I was a wide eyed intern at WXIA and a UGA student many years ago. He was one of the nicest industry professionals I ever met. He always had a smile and took time to talk with the novices in the newsroom. At the time, women were discouraged from pursuing a sports career. But Jim was always encouraging. He had the same warm personality even after I ran into him again while at CNN. My condolences to his family. I know he will be truly missed.
