Dmitri and I studied together at the Longy School of Music in Cambridge in the early 1950s. I remember especially the demanding musicianship classes with Melville Smith,Director of the School. I haven't seen Dmitri in years but miss him despite the hiatus. He was an only child, and I don't think he had living relatives. Cousins? Cynthia McCarthy Zaitzevsky

Dmitri lived on Craige St and I lived across the property line on Concord Ave in Cambridge ,Ma. My mother,Ruth Ford Duncan and Vladimir were acquaintances. Dmitri and I played together. We created fireworks and other minor explosives, andbuilt small wooden race cars that were propelled on a string with CO2 cartridge fuel. We lost touch after they moved to Wellesly.

Like most fans of literature, I had read of Dmitri Nabokov in connection to his father. I also knew that he was a noted alpinist, European race-car driver, had sung with Pavarotti, and had spent some time in Florida.
However, I had not seen nor heard Dmitri until his appearance on C-SPAN in 1999 in the commemoration of his father's centenary birthday. Several well-known writers such as John Updike and Joyce Carol Oates gave readings and reminiscences. At the conclusion of the evening, Dmitri waxed eloquent and poetic in a fitting remembrance of his father. It was as if Vladimir had written the words himself - which he did in part. Still it gave the world a lasting impression of Dmitri Nabokov, a very unusual man in his own right.

I loved Pnin so much I finished the book the same day I started it. Vladimir Nabokov's laurels didn't rest on just one book. Ada, Laughter in the Dark, King, Queen and Knave, Despair and Collected Stories are works of enormous complexity. With the passing of Dmitri Nabokov, a link to a great literary talent has been lost.
