It was a Honor and extreme pleasure to have know Art but more importantly be able to go to battle with him on Sundays.WHAT A TEAMMATE!!
I know one thing YOU NEVER had to worry about Art handling his job on that field and i can tell you when ever i'd go back to the huddle and see that huge grin on Arts face I new it was going to be fun watching film on Mondays because Art had lit some players up that game.

It was a privilege to serve Art when he played for the Falcons. As the Athletic Trainer I dealt with "Eloy" most every day. I never had a finer man as a player, and never had a player any tougher than Art. He was fun to be around, and a joy to watch as he played on Sunday.
I wish God's comfort for the family as you adjust to your recent loss. I know when he played here, his life was centered on providing and loving "his 3 Ladies'

When I was a kid growing up in South Phoenix we use to play football in the dirt fields and everybody wanted to be Art or Benny Malone. I had the pleasure to meet Mr. Art Malone while I was a writer/photographer for The Arizona Informant Newspaper. He really made my day, and a day that I will never forget.
Years later I met Art brother James and his wife Michelle. All I can say is Greatness runs in the Malone family.

I knew Art Malone, when I was 6. I would attend football and track practice with my father, Coach Bill Stovall. Art was superman to me, I was told that I would grab his sweats and put them on, as he worked out. Art gave me his State Championship medal in low hurdles, as an inspiration. I never attained such greatness, but, never forgot his kindness and generosity. He was only a teenager at the time, but, I understand, that those parts of him, never changed.
On another note, my Dad told me a story. He said at one point, Art's father, Benjamin Malone, took his children out of school, to work in the fields. The cotton fields in Eloy Arizona. At the time, my dad was the head football coach at Santa Cruz Union High School. Dad drove out, to speak with Benjamin Malone about this. He found him on his front porch reading the Bible. Spoke to him about the potential of his children coming back to, and continuing their education and athletic endevours. Mr. Malone agreed, and the children returned to school. My father found a job for Mr. Malone with the City of Eloy, which helped them financially.
Without this 'meet up', and my dad finding Mr. Malone the job, I don't think Art nor Benny, would have ever gone on to college, let again, the NFL. Kudos to Coach Bill Stovall, and to Benjamin Malone for taking the leap that they did.

I grew up in the Coolidge-Eloy-Casa Grande "triangle" and knew Art when we were children. I remember the wonderful smile he always had on his face that I know was a reflection of his beautiful heart and soul. We were children of farm workers so I also remember working together in the cotton fields to earn money. We both attended Arizona State in Tempe and years later when we both worked for the University, he teased me about the Eloy vs. Coolidge games and my being a "Bear" because as a child I lived north of Selma Highway and had to attend Coolidge not Eloy schools. After I married and my husband and I attended all ASU home games, Art made it a point to "check" on us as he went about his work duties. Finally, in the mid-1990s when I was the scholarship coordinator at Marcos de Niza High School, I had the pleasure of working with one of his lovely daughters. Art Malone was indeed a great football player but to me he was a great friend with a great, kind heart first. He will always be one of the great memories of my entire life. My prayers are with his beloved family. May each of you find comfort in knowing that he is still smiling down up you and may you remain strong with this Bible verse: "I am leaving you with a gift --peace of mind and heart. And the peace I give is a gift the world cannot give. So do not be troubled or afraid." John 14:27

I didn't know Art as a man. I knew Art as a boy. So talented, so smart, so funny, so young. In class, he teased me alot. I liked it. I teased him back. He made me laugh. We shared candy together. We all grew up together in our little town of Eloy. It's been 46 years since we all graduated together. So many times in those 46 years and still today somebody will ask me where I am from. My reply is,"I grew up in Eloy." There response is "Oh, do you know Art Malone ?" "Of course", I will say, and a feeling of pride will come over me because he made our little nothing town,"noticed". He accomplished! He excelled! He succeeded! I was so proud of him and he never knew it. He was a good boy! Thank You, to each and every member of the "MALONE" Family for our finest "Hometown Boy!" . Good Bye, Friend, I still have you in my memories Phyllis Simmons Penny Dewey, Az.
