JOEY PUSTEJOVSKY: A caring, devout man

Joey Pustejovsky, 29, one o f the volunteer firefighters killed in the blast, was the secretary for the town of West, said Veronica Felderhoff, a volunteer at the church where Pustejovsky's mother, Carolyn, works as a secretary to the rectory.

"He was a very caring person, always ready to help, a very devout Catholic," Felderhoff said. The Pustejovskys attended Mass every Sunday.

A funeral home obituary said Pustejovsky had been town secretary since 2009 and had worked as a personal property appraiser for McLennan County Appraisal District. He was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of The Assumption, where he started the youth ministry and was the director for two years of the Catholic Brothers and Sisters United Youth Ministry, the obituary said.

He loved spending time with his children and family as well as being involved in the community and his church.

The youngest of three brothers, Pustejovsky is survived by his wife, four children, his parents, a brother, grandmother a nd other relatives.

It was an honor to meet you and work with you on getting a truck for your department. When I heard about the explosion just knowing the type of dedicated firefigher and man you are I knew you were one of the first ones there. You are a true hero and we wont forget you. God bless you and your family.

Joey served his City of West with honor. We knew him as a business colleague while working with West officials on a grant for a County/City Park Plan. We will miss his friendly smile. God bless his family and all who miss his leadership.

Sorry for your loss.

2 Cor. 1:9 In fact, we felt within ourselves that we had received the sentence of death. This was that we might have our trust, not in ourselves, but in the God who raises up the dead.

My heart aches for Joey's wife and children, parents, grandmother, siblings and extended family. Your video aired at the memorial service was a moving testament to a short life well lived. I worked with his father,Joe, many years ago when I first came to the Waco area. I pray that the Lord will comfort you all with His loving prescence and guide you through this time of grief. - Mark Blanpied

Though I did not know Joey very well, of the many I met in West at one time or another, he was truly an upstanding citizen and hero. I'm honored to have had the opportunity to know Joey and the family is in my prayers. I'm also wanting to set up a fundraiser for Kelly and the children. Please let me know if you are okay with me doing so and if a trust has been set up at this time? God Bless Joey and y'all.

Sincerely,

Katieann R. Fox (Formerly Veselka)
