Bob Hastings Obituary
Allison Knowles says her grandfather died Monday in his Burbank, California, home.
Hastings won fans on "McHale's Navy" as Lt. Carpenter, a bumbling yes-man. Other memorable roles were on "All in the Family" and "General Hospital."
The Brooklyn-born Hastings began his career at age 11 on radio dramas. He branched into TV in its infancy, snagging a role on "Captain Video and His Video Rangers" in 1949.
Other early acting jobs included a recurring role on the military comedy "The Phil Silvers Show."
Later TV appearances included "Ironside," "The Dukes of Hazzard," "Major Dad" and "Murder, She Wrote."
His voiceover work continued as recently as the 2010 video game "Mafia II."

So very sad to learn of Mr. Hastings's passing....a wonderful actor...Bob Hastings and Joe Flynn MADE McHale's Navy the wonderful comedy that it was....two of the most funniest bumbling, stumbling baddies in TV sitcom history...now Bob is in heaven with Joe, I can just imagine what Joe Flynn said when he met Bob at the Pearly Gates: "What, what, what? I still can't believe that Bob is not here. My family acted with Bob in several radio re-creation programs in Cincinnati over the last 15 years, and Bob was always eager to chat with his fans.
My most cherished memory of Bob is when he would give my wife a knowing look that would send her into spasms of laughter. Miss him immensely.

I remember him from playing his real life brother, Don Hastings, older brother "Don Hughes" on As The World Turns. How often to biological siblings (not counting the twins on the other network)get to play siblings on TV.
He and his brother were 4 generation family favorites in the 60s when my great grandmother was still alive. :-) Of course, I was in kdg-6th grade. Sympathy and prayer to his family. May he rest in peace.

I had just moved to North Hollywood and joined Valley Courts to play racquetball. I did not know anybody there and this nice gentleman came up to me and asked if I would like to join his group and play doubles racquetball. It was a great friendly gesture.
