WWI Private 34198 of the NZEF, Canterbury Regiment, 3rd Battalion.
In loving memory of "Our Dick" who died of wounds October 2nd, 1917.
Buried in Lijssenthoek Cemetery, Belgium.
He marched away so bravely,
His young head proudly held.
His footsteps never faltered,
His courage never failed.
And on the field of battle he calmly took his place,
He fought and died for England, home and duty,
And the honour of his race.

My dad & eight of his brothers served in both world wars, five in WW1, & four in WW2, in the 28th.Maori Btn. All came home with the exception of one of the brothers who died of disease in WWI. To them, & all who served in all branches of the Armed Forces, during these & following conflicts," May all the Honours & our deepest love & Respect be yours forever & onwards. I also served in the R.N.Z.N.
