Chad Young Obituary
Young was involved in a multiple bike collision during a high-speed descent on the final stage of the Tour of the Gila in New Mexico Sunday, April 23. He sustained a head injury and was airlifted to a hospital in Tuscon, Arizona. Initially described as being in stable condition, he had been in critical condition since Tuesday, according to the team.
“We lost a friend, a teammate, and a family member. I have no words that can express my pain over this loss,” wrote Axeon General Manager Axel Merckx on the team’s website. “I can only say that I am thankful to have known him and that I feel privileged to have been able to share in his passion for cycling.”

The cycling world had been closely following news about his status. When his death was announced Saturday, many took to social media to express their grief and extend sympathies to his family.
“Rest in Peace Chad. It was a pleasure to have spent some of your final moments in that break with you. You won’t be forgotten. #belikechad,” wrote cyclist Joe Lewis on Twitter.
Young was from in Newmarket, New Hampshire. He was a promising rider and had been racing with Axeon for the past three years.

Dear Evan, I did not know Chad nor had met him, but reading about his career goal and his love of cycling, I was immidieately impressed by his great spirit. I sincerely hope the quality moments Chad has shared with his family act as light house for moving your family forward and cherish his life achievements. No pain is more severe than when we lose a love one that goes to be with heavenly father. May this be your last family sadness.

My son Connor Jednak, a classmate of Chad's at Saint Thomas introduced Chad to us his junior year. He seemed like a lovely young man, a dedicated rider. I had the privilege of teaching Chad for two years but it was Chad who ended up teaching me so much. He was a shining example of what it means to be a compassionate and kind person for others.
