I saw Charlie race at the Sportsdrome In Indiana years ago. I would hang around with him at car auctions. He always treated me great.

My past husband Junior Johnson (Garland III) worked for Nichols Engineering back then, building engines for Charlie. Racing was very interesting back in those days. We also knew Dale Sr. , and involved with old Concord race tracks, and others. Charlie will be missed, but is "racing on" to winners circle. My condolences and prayers are for family. Blessings to you all. SJA

I saw him win a NASCAR race at the Atlanta speedway. He gave a lot of him self to racing. He could have won several races in NASCAR with some sponsors. Sweet Jesus, please provide strength and comfort for his family and friends.

My sympathies to family and friends of Chargin Charlie. Charlie should have won the 1969 Daytona 500. We were standing and cheering for him and couldn,t believe when Leroy passed him on the last lap. Later we heard that no.6 had lost a lot of horsepower at the end of the race. There is one model race car in my small office (DOW #99) . I hope Charlie enjoyed racing as much as we enjoyed watching him. God bless charlie.

I never saw Charlie race, but his record reveals that he was highly skilled, versatile, and competitive. Accounts from peers and fans verify those facts, and Charlie's status as a force on the track during an exciting and important era in racing. The nickname "Chargin' Charlie" says a lot, and there are some nice pictures of the cool Chargers that Chargin' Charlie drove!

Goin' bumper to bumper with many of the sport's legends and forerunners was an amazing accomplishment, Charlie. Congratulations on a racing life well lived!
