To Ray’s FamilyYou have never met me or heard of me. But, I’ve been fishing with Ray all through my life even though he and I never met. You see, I am that kid, teenager, father, mother, grandparent, lonely soldier, and all the others who grew up loving to bass fish because Ray took us fishing with him every time the mail-person delivered Ray’s invitation: BASS. Because of him Bass fishing is a true sport for anyone and everyone. In a world rife with hurtful differences, we found a common thread that brings us to a common ground where the only differences are bait, rod, and reel choices. No hostilities. No distrust. In a sense BASS became a spiritual realityRay taught us to fish and in turn, we learned to do unto others by teaching them, too. And who knows, maybe Ray will get in some fishing time with his life long friend, the true “Fishers of Men”

Thank you Ray for bringing the sport of bass fishing and creating BASS to become mainstream. I owe so much of what I've learned to the magazine, TV shows, and your love of it. You are gone but not forgotten, I will forever remember the opportunity to serve as an observer and fish in the Media Classic in Chicago in 2000. What an incredible legacy you have left, not only of a sport and pioneering but your humility and Faith in God. I will see you again when my time comes my friend. My thoughts, prayers and condolences go out to your entire family and the BASS community. Proud to be called a Life Member.
