Visitation will be held at the funeral home Thursday 8 a.m.-8 p.m.
Mary was born March 26, 1939, in Tulsa, to Roy Bruce Badgwell and Claudia Merle (Paxton) Badgwell. Mary attended Holy Family Cathedral school. She lived in California, before moving back to the Tulsa area, where she attended beauty school with her sister, Snookie. She established Mary's Beauty Shop working out of her home, and worked until her retirement in 2017. Mary also sold Avon, was the Top-Seller for many years, and she collected Avon's Mrs. Albee dolls. She was also a janitor for many years with her husband, Wayne, at Midwestern Manufacturing and Crown Products; as well as a home health provider.
On October 9, 1987, Mary married Wayne Arthur Surine at Olivet Baptist Church, and they celebrated 34 years of marriage together. Her pride and joy were her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She babysat each one of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and always put their needs before hers. She collected pop cans to buy three swing sets for her grandchildren. Mary was a Cub Scout leader, Camp Fire leader, and homeroom mother for her children. She crocheted many blankets for her children and grandchildren, and was always painting her home with a new coat of paint. Her favorite time of the year was during Christmas and she looked forward to spending time in Branson to see the lights. Mary lived life. She was always busy and loved being outdoors. She enjoyed fishing, planting flowers, vacations at the ocean in Galveston and Corpus Christi, and taking the grandchildren swimming.
She was very close to her sister, Snookie. They lived around the corner from each other, bowled together at Bowl-ero, and played cards, dominoes and poker together.
Everyone looked forward to eating Mary's chicken and dumplings, and she never turned down a good shrimp, clams, fried catfish or cheese hamburgers. Our hearts miss her, but we know she is happy to join Wayne and her family in heaven.
