I was also shocked and saddened to learn of the passing of Doctor Bob Meredith. I was 4-year College Bowl player for Doc. Doc continued to coach the Tech college bowl team despite no longer working for the institute. He took a chance on me as a freshman, although my score on his very difficult qualifying test perhaps did not merit that chance. His faith, patience and confidence enabled me to become a better player, leader and person. My most cherished memories of Tech are of Doc, Eileen, my College Bowl team mates and weekend College Bowl tournaments. He will be missed.

I was shocked to learn of Doc's death in the Tech Topics. I played College Bowl in the early days (maiden name Ryan). Doc was a wonderful coach and mentor. I appreciate the time he and Eileen spent with us.

I am from Bartlesville and attended grade school, high school, then K.U. with Bob. He was one of the brightest and kindest students in my class. I am pleased to see his familiar smile and have this opportunity to send my sincere sympathy for your loss.

Eileen.... Bob and I were in a number of classes together in High School. I remember particularly the tough math classes; I didn't like it that he seemed to "get it" quicker and better than I did, but I looked up to him for his hard and dependable work. He was a fine man. My best to you. Robert Swinney

I was associated with Bob for several years at H & R Block. He was very good at his business and very helpful to his colleagues. I was sorry to hear of his untimely death. Best wishes to Mrs. Meredith. Ella Forrester

Bob Meredith was a dear man. He was a much beloved teammate and friend. I will miss him, but like to think that he is making sure that we all have well balanced and well written questions in the eternal game of the afterlife.

Eileen, I was stunned when I heard of Bob's death. I still have such fond memories of our talks on the front porch with you, me and skizeeks!!!! I have you guys on video from my 40th birthday party at Eastlake 16 years ago!! You and Bob were the nicest neighbors and sweet friends. I will pray for you often and I send my most heartfelt sympathy at this very difficult time for you. May you laugh again soon. Love, Kathleen & Stan

While many others have rightly commented about the significant role Bob played in the College Bowl world, I want to pay homage to Bob as a man with a good heart and kind soul. One of my special memories of Bob is when he bonded with my cat Pyewacket while visiting us during a Master's tournament. "Well aren't you a fine kitty" he said, thereby winning over my kitty and me. Bob was a very private man, but everyone who cared about him also knows what a truly good person he was.

Bob prepared my taxes for me for a number of years. He was enourmously patient and kind--always a pleasure to work with. I always looked forward to seeing him -- even though it was in the context of taxes. I remember him very fondly.

I met Professor Meredith only once, when he was playing with Don Windham, Jim Dendy, and Jason King at the 1996 TN Masters. He seemed like an extremely agreeable and pleasant man, and as a competitor was definitely a contributor to that team. Here my personal knowledge of him ends, but as a player of the game he did so much to shape I stand in his debt for the legacy he has bequeathed us all. In pace requiescat.

Bob had the capacity to make those around him better than they were before they knew him. His combination of wit, intellect, and integrity made him a wonderful teacher and a true professional. It was an honor to have known him.

I knew Dr. Meredith through Georgia Tech College Bowl. He was a patient teacher for a group of us just starting college bowl. He found time to smile at practices and he never grew angry or intemperate with us. I'm very sorry to hear of his passing.

Bob was a great teacher and friend. I count it an honor and privelege to have known him and played for him on the Georgia Tech College Bowl Team. He taught me not only the precepts of the Game, but principles of fairness and tenacity and preparation that are wonderful lessons for life.

Bob Meredith created and stimulated the environment and the circle of people who became my friends that are my fondest memories of college. In many ways he contributed to the way I think & learn, and for that I will always be grateful. Once more, "Light the victory pipe"!

My condolences to the family and friends of Dr. Meredith. He was certainly one of the most influential mentors, advocates, and champions of his students and for academic competition. He will be missed.

Though I never met Dr. Meredith, I am deeply appreciative of his contributions to the quiz bowl community. His innovations to the game are still with us to this day and all of us who play the game are in his debt.

I never knew Dr. Meredith, but hearing how much he meant to the Georgia Tech quizbowl team and academic competition in general shows that just about everyone who played quizbowl lost a little something upon hearing of his passing.

My heart-felt condolences to Dr. Meredith's family, Georgia Tech quizbowl competitors past and present and those who were inspired by him.

Bob Meredith was an inspiration to a whole generation of College Bowl players at Georgia Tech. I hope that I can be for others what Doc was for me.

Bob Meredith was a great friend and my mentor in College Bowl. In the 20 years since I left Atlanta, there has seldom been a day when I didn't reflect "Bob would love (or hate) this question!" or ask myself "What would Bob object to, and how do I fix it?"
