Rodney Eugene Porter, 71, passed away on September 11, 2025, at his home in Clovis, New Mexico. Born on November 11, 1953, in Clovis, New Mexico, Rodney was a lifelong rancher whose deep love for nature and the land defined his life and legacy.
A dedicated steward of the environment, Rodney was honored with an Award for Outstanding Land Stewardship from the New Mexico Association of Conservation Districts in 2009. He served as a Committee Member of the Elk Foundation and as a Central Curry Soil and Water Conservation Supervisor, reflecting his commitment to preserving New Mexico's natural beauty. An avid hunter, Rodney found solace and joy in the outdoors, where he felt most at home.
Rodney is survived by his loving wife, Patricia Porter; his two sons, Rodney Robert Porter (Paige Porter) and Cory Porter (Shirley Porter); and his five grandchildren, Roger Dylan Porter (Audrey Porter), Rachel Porter, Robin Porter, Andrew Benjamin, and Ricky Benjamin. He is also survived by his sister, Vicki Marchman (Jack Marchman), brother-in-law Gilbert "Bud" Marcilla (Marsha Marcilla), and several cousins, nieces, and nephews. He was predeceased by his brother, Roger Porter; his father, Robert Porter; and his mother, Billie Ruth Hill.
There will be no formal service. A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Eastern New Mexico Food Bank.
Rodney's legacy as a devoted rancher, conservationist, and family man will live on in the hearts of his community and loved ones.
