Dr. Edward Joseph Baranski, 91, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2025. Edward was born in Nanticoke, Pa. on Oct. 12, 1933, a son of the late Stanley and Agnes Radomski Baranski, but has been in Gettysburg, Pa. for over 60 years.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Allison M. Baranski, on Nov. 6, 2016; and a sister, Evelyn P. Childs.
He leaves behind his cherished family; his wife, Georgine M. Baranski; his sons, Edward J. Baranski Jr. and spouse, Constance; and Marc H. Baranski and spouse, Lynn; daughter, Anne Baranski Perkins and spouse, Brian; his grandchildren, Edward J. Baranski III (Joe); Erica Baranski Brower and spouse, Darby; Marc H. Baranski Jr.; Josephine L. Baranski (Josie); and his great-grandchild, Hudson Brower.
He left Nanticoke, Pa., after high school to attend Penn State University, State College, Pa. He then continued his life-long dream of becoming a medical doctor by attending Jefferson Medical College, Philadelphia, Pa. Through his internship and residency at various hospitals in N.Y. and Pa., he became a general surgeon. Falling in love with Gettysburg, Edward and wife, Georgine, came to the community in 1964. Edward became a general surgeon with the Gettysburg (Wellspan) Hospital, and was a founding member of Gettysburg Surgical Associates.
Edward loved family — holidays were always a special celebration. His family will continue to carry on traditions as they were given to them. His contributions to the community will allow Edward's legacy to live on.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Saturday from St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg, Pa. with Fr. Michael Pray as celebrant. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg, Pa. The family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at Monahan Funeral Home in Gettysburg, PA. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to the Gettysburg Foundation, 1195 Baltimore Pike, Gettysburg, Pa. 17325; or Thomas Jefferson University, Sidney Kimmel Medical College, 1101 Market St., 22nd floor, Philadelphia, Pa. 19107; or [email protected]. I knew Dr. B. from working with him at Gettysburg Hospital in the 1990s. He was so kind to the nursing staff and had a super bedside manner with his patients. He was a gentle man with a good heart. My thoughts are with his family. My prayers are for God's sustainence through this time. I have no doubt he is with Allison.
