Diane Weir Obituary

Diane Yvonne Weir (née Welde) of Camano Island, Washington passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 7, 2025 at the age of 76. Born on May 4, 1949 in Tacoma, Washington, Diane grew up in nearby Fife.

She earned both her Bachelor's (1971) and Master's degrees (1974) from Western Washington University, and dedicated her career to serving the Puyallup School District as a speech therapist and administrator until her retirement in 2000.

Diane was a devoted member of the Mountain View Lutheran and Camano Lutheran Church congregations. With unwavering faith, dignity and grace, she faced a 44-year battle with Multiple Sclerosis. Despite the challenges, Diane remained a tireless source of positivity and strength for her family, friends and broader community.

Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Glenn and Betty Welde (née Dunn).

She is survived by her loving husband of 53 years, David Weir; her sons, Ryan Weir (Stevi) and Matthew Weir (Anne); her cherished grandchildren, Bobbi, Dannan, Grace, and Beckett Weir; and her siblings, Marcia Garner (née Welde) and Glenn Welde, Jr. (Deanne).

The family extends heartfelt thanks to Diane's caregivers-Solange Oliveira, Pelena Fotuaika and Debbie Estrem-for their devotion in the final years of her life.

Diane will always be remembered for her professionalism, warmth and deep compassion, and her strength will remain a guiding light for those she leaves behind.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, September 26th at 11:30 a.m. at Mountain View Lutheran Church (3505 122nd Ave. E, Edgewood, Washington 98372), with a reception to follow.

In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Diane's honor to either the National Multiple Sclerosis Society, the Edgewood Nourish Food Bank, or Camano Lutheran Church.

Diane was my master teacher when I student taught in speech therapy in the Puyallup School District in the spring of 1975. She created a warm and caring environment in which to share her expertise. She helped me gain the confidence I needed to get my first job at a time when few school districts were hiring. I will always remember her warm smile and cheerful disposition.

I worked with Diane for 13 years in Puyallup SD. She was a friend and colleague. I have thought about her often and wondered how she was doing. She was an exception person. We spent a lot of wonderful times together. I am very sad for your family. So sorry for your loss.

To Dave, Matthew, and Ryan:

We pray and think of you often during this time.

Over many years, Diane´s (your Mom´s) joyful, loving spirit and countless heartfelt stories of her family touched us all. She was so proud of her boys and so grateful for the life and love you gave her, Dave. Her legacy will continue to profoundly bless us all.

With love,
Kevin and Linda Ahrens
