With deepest sympathy to the entire Shazier family, in the passing of Ms. Lucille Shazier.
I have known Ms. Shazier for 20 years. I met her when I attended her Aunts funeral (Ms. Ora Lee West) many years ago. meeting her has been such a blessing for me and my family. she was very encouraging and full of wisdom. her presence was always warm and inviting, full of laughter. You lived the years many of us dream of and wish for our children and loved ones! Enjoy the 2nd part of your eternal life!

Mother Shazier will live forever in our hearts!!! She brought such joy and love to our lives with her visits to Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Ocilla Georgia. Listening to her recall her childhood, talk about the Church and grandparents was priceless!!!

Mother Lucille D.'s Obituary

Mother Lucille Dennard Shazier of 510 West 4th Avenue, Cordele, Georgia died Friday, May 13, 2022 at her residence.

The funeral service will be held Saturday, May 21, 2022 at 10:00 AM at the J. W. Williams Funeral Home Porte Cochere in Cordele, Georgia.  The burial will follow at the Bethel Cemetery in Cordele, Georgia.  Everyone in attendance is asked to please wear a mask and to practice social distancing.

A Time To Be Born:  Lucille was born February 18, 1913, to the late Lula Mae Dykes and the late Jake Dennard in Worth County, Georgia. She was the last survivor of 11 siblings.

A Time to Learn:  Lucille received her childhood education in the Irwin and Crisp County,   Georgia School Systems.

A Time to Worship:  Lucille was baptized at an early age at Morris Tabernacle Baptist Church in Cordele, Georgia. Lucille attended Pleasant Hill Baptist Church in Ocilla, Georgia while living with her father and step-mother.

A Time to Love:  It was in Cordele, Crisp County, Georgia where she met and fell in love with a handsome young man named, Eddie B. Shazier. They married on September 11, 1937.

A Time to Give Birth:  Lucille gave birth to only one child, a son.

A Time to Work:  In addition to her work as a homemaker, mother, and gardener, Lucille worked as an entrepreneur and part owner of Eddie’s Barbeque.  She also worked as a factory worker for  Cordele Peanut Mill, a housekeeper and a nursing home assistant.

A Time as A Care Giver:  Lucille provided personal care and support to her husband, family members, several neighbors, and church members. This included, retired school  teacher, Gladys Lawrence and Lucille’s cousin, Alice Jones Moore.

A Time To Organize:  Lucille was a charter member of the Greater Morris Tabernacle Vacation Bible School. Serving as Mother of the Church, she also served as a        Deaconess, active participant in the Adult Sunday School, Usher Ministry, and the Missionary Auxiliary. Over the years she held many offices and never waivered in her commitment to the church. She was an avid blood donor and a member of the local NAACP. Mother Lucille was very active in social and civic affairs.  She voted in basically every election for public office when and where she was authorized to vote.

Loved Ones who Preceded Lucille in Death:  Lucille is preceded in death by her birth parents, Jake and Lula Dykes  Dennard; her stepmother, Ida Harper Dennard, four brothers and six sisters, surrogate parents, Reverend Charlie Hargrove and Alice Dennard Hargrove; three grand children: Larry Smith, Alvenia R. Smith, and Melody Smith and two great grandchildren: Valencia Smith and Trimeatice J. Smith.

A Time To Rest:  On Friday, May 13, 2022, the Lord called our beloved for a time of rest. She leaves to mourn her passing, her son, Freddie C Smith; three granddaughters: Patricia S. Parker (Willie), Janice S. Orise (Herb), and Sharon Smith; 14 great grandchildren; 24 great great-grandchildren; four great-great-great grandchildren, several nieces, nephews, a host of cousins, foster children other relatives and friends. The entire adopted Beal family of Georgia,  Florida, Virginia, and New York.
