Millie Peterson Obituary
1944 ~ 2020
Millie Marion Peterson passed away March 30, 2020. She was born in Merced, CA on June 11, 1944 to Feno and LaVerne Neilson Peterson the second of eight siblings. She was delighted that out of eight children, she was the only one born outside of Salt Lake City.
Millie loved her family and numerous friends. She enjoyed conversing with people. She was known for her sharp sense of humor and her intelligence. She loved reading, playing golf, and talking politics. However, Millie said she cooked by smoke alarm, and there are a lot of mishaps to prove she did indeed cook by smoke alarm. She always stood up for what she believed and cared deeply for causes close to her heart.
Millie held a Bachelor of Science in sociology and had a master's in social work. She worked as an administrative assistant in the School of Medicine at the University of Utah and at Valley Mental Health. She also served as a Utah State Senator for twelve years.
Millie is survived by siblings, ReNae (Dean) Duncombe, Terry (Jan) Peterson, Pamela (Bruce) Kraus, and Jan; aunts, an uncle, numerous nieces, nephews, and dear friends. She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Kip and Peter; sister, Judie; grandparents; and numerous relatives and friends.
A private burial will be held for immediate family. A celebration of her life will be held in the future. Please share a smile and kind words to all you meet.

I knew Millie from her time in the State Legislature. She was an amazing person and a caring lawmaker. Always looking out for the little guy. Her loss on the hill left a huge hole where compassion had been. I missed her terribly and I am sad that she has passed.

Friends and family of Millie. Millie followed me to represent citizens of District 12 in the Utah Senate. Although of different political parties I considered her a friend.

Millie helped me navigate the Senate my first year. She truly was an exceptional woman and neighbor on the senate floor. Thank you dear Millie for guiding me. May you rest in peace and paradise.

My Aunt Millie was an amazing women. She worked hard her entire life for families, education and politics. She loves all of her family and friends. I will always remember her for her smile, love and advise. Fly high Millie. Your a heavenly angel who was meet by the loving arms of some many of our families and your friends. Loving you always.

I loved Millie. When I was a Girl Scout she would buy cookies from me every year (even though I don't think she actually ate them.) She would always invite me over to teach me about politics and the potential of women of women in the world. Although we only saw each other twice annually, Millie remembered my progress from year to year. When I was in high school she even advised me about college, which as a first generation student I was very grateful for. I will remember all of those visits with such fondness. Rest in peace, you wonderful lady!

Millie will be missed by her many friends. I was a school friend at Cyprus. I'm so happy to find out what she did with her life after that. What a wonderful full life she had! To her family, May God Bless you at this time.
