PATRICIA F. BORNS, M.D. FACR, 87, of Princeton, died Wednesday, April 15, 2009, in the University Medical Center at Princeton.
Born in Barstow CA, she resided most of her life in Philadelphia before moving to Princeton in 2007. Dr. Borns received her B.Sc. from Purdue University and her MD from Women's Medical College in Philadelphia where she was elected to Alpha Omega Alpha. She completed her Internship at Philadelphia General Hospital and her Residency and Fellow-ship in Radiology at University of Pennsylvania. During the 1950s and 1960s, Dr. Borns along with her mentor, Dr. John W. Hope, pioneered the field of Pediatric Radiology, first at Thomas Jefferson Hospital and later at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). She was appointed a Fellow of the American College of Radiology at this time. Dr. Borns later became Head of the Radiology Departments at Hahnemann University Hospital and A.E.I. Dupont Institute for Children in Wilmington DE. In the 1980s, Dr. Borns returned to CHOP and was appointed a Professor at University of Pennsylvania Medical School. During the course of her career, she received numerous professional awards for her clinical excellence, academic publica-tions and distinguished teaching. Her foremost accomplishment during her 45-year career, however, was using her intelligence, talent and dedica-tion to treat countless numbers of severely ill children.
Daughter of the late Lyle and Eva Sallee Flint, wife of the late William J. Borns, she is survived by a son and daughter- in-law, David J. and Kelly R. Borns of Albuquerque NM; a daughter and son-in-law, Jane A. Borns and William J. Hurlin and a grandson David L. Hurlin of Princeton; and cousins, Nina Krakenberg of Hayden ID and Zane Murfitt of Philipsburg MT. A Memorial Service is planned for the Fall of 2009 in Philadelphia. Internment will be private.
