Milton Olin Obituary

February 23, 1948 - December 8, 2013 Milton Everett Olin, Jr. tragically died on December 8, 2013, when he was struck by a car as he was cycling in the bike lane in Calabasas, CA. He was born in Queens, NY, and was affectionately nicknamed "Dook" by his family, a Swedish moniker that stayed with him until he entered law school. A graduate of Glendale Hoover High School, he served in Vietnam in 1969, graduated from UCSB and received a JD from UCLA Law School. He met the love of his life, Louise, while attending UCSB, they were married in 1977 and blessed with two sons. He was a visionary in Entertainment, Internet & Intellectual Property and Business law, working to create new distribution frameworks that took full advantage of the shifting technology landscape. He brought his expertise and strong sense of fair play to the budding Internet music industry. Most recently he was a founding partner at the law firm of Altschul & Olin. He began his career at Mitchell, Silberberg & Knupp, and in 1984 joined A&M Records as VP of Business & Legal Affairs. After 2000 he explored models of music and technology at First Look and then Napster. Milt is survived by his wife Louise; sons, Geoff, Chris and wife Kristin; his sister Barbara and husband Richard McGeagh; nephew Michael McGeagh and family; niece Karin Cupit and family.
