So sorry I never got to see him again. My mother called him Jack. He drove up to Washington State in the 60s to see my mother Geraldine Karen Riedel who was his first cousin. So thankful I got to see his obituary and photo. The family resemblance is strong. There is so much I don't know about our family.

Hollie Engen Ragland is one of my oldest friends and I knew Rolf as a child. I always respected Rolf and his commitment to family, sports and business. I remember him most as a Sports enthusiast and always thought of Rolf when I saw the Emerald Bay Volleyball nets up at the bottom of the hill. Also, I remember their reading alcove outside of their kitchen and the Sports Illustrated magazines there; Rolf was my first introduction to Sports Illustrated and he was an inspiration to me to want to excel in athletics.
Prayers to all of his family. RIP Rolf - you inspired me and I won't forget you.

My mom (Marti) told me about Rolf's passing yesterday. What a beautiful video and lovely words in the LA Times piece. I hope all of you find a way to get through this peacefully. Carol you are a lucky woman to have spent a lifetime with Rolf. Perhaps Tony and Rolf are currently enjoying a nice glass of Borolo together? Lots of love to you!!! Aileen Gilmour Winter

My deepest condolences to the Engen Famiky.
Rolf lived a wonderful and full life with so many amazing accomplishments.
I had the great honor of getting to know Rolf when his alma mater, Santa Ana College, inducted him into its prestigious Hall of Fame. He gave credit to SAC for much of his success. Rolf was a star basketball player while at SAC, but made the switch to volleyball when he enrolled at UCLA and he excelled at the sport.
His obituary tells you a great deal about this incredible man, but anyone who ever met Rolf found that he was a humble person and family man who was quick to give credit to others.
Rolf Engen was indeed a very special lover of life.
