Elizabeth Arndt Obituary

Elizabeth (Betty) Delano Moore Arndt currently of Las Cruces, NM, and formerly of Centralia, MO, died peacefully of natural causes at home on December 14, 2017. She was 97.

Betty, an Army Nurse Corps veteran of World War II, is preceded in death by her Amesbury, MA, family of origin and her husband of 63 years, Joseph M. Arndt Jr. whom she met in 1942 at an Army reception.

"Queenie," as Joe called her is survived by four children: Peggy Shinn and Marty Arndt, both of Las Cruces; Joe Arndt and wife, Caroline, of Columbia, SC; and Marilyn Madden of Springfield, MO.

Additional survivors include her beloved grandchildren; Tracy Hoffman and husband, Jason, of Albuquerque, NM; Caitlyn Madden of Portland, ME; Megan Madden of New York City, NY; Sarah Williamson and husband, Eric, of Columbia, SC; and Hannah Arndt of Clemson, SC. She leaves two devoted great-grandsons of Albuquerque, NM: Maxwell and Benjamin Hoffman.

David Touhey and wife Suzanne; Henry Goodwin and wife Laura along with Robert Moore, nephews to Betty, remain in the New England area of her birth.

Betty was an active homemaker in Centralia and gave generously of her time to family, friends, and non-profits such as Girl Scouts, Republican Women, Sorosis, P. E.O., Red Cross, and her church. She enjoyed church choir and beautifully sang alto in a quartet, duet, or solo on Sundays and at several funerals. Her family retirement home of Las Cruces, NM, will remember her as an active leader in the Progress Club, Republican Women, and the Women's Veterans Auxiliary. Of late, she graciously received many accolades and dedications for her military service.

Betty will be dearly missed by her family, but we are especially glad she had such a wonderful life of service and devotion to each and all-she was truly one of a kind.

Her Celebration of Life Memorial will be in late February, 2018 in Las Cruces.

Please go on acquiring power in the Lord and in the mightiness of his strength. God will give you the power to gain strength to the tired one and those lacking strength.
