Edward Heerema Obituary


Obituary

Edward Heerema, 87, of Cape Coral, died Thursday, August 31, 2000. The son of the late Albert and Gerbena Heerema, he was born in Orange City, Iowa Nov. 5, 1912. He attended Grundy College, Grundy Center, IA from 1929 to 1931, Calvin College, Grand Rapids, MI 1931 to 1933, University of Iowa from 1933 to 1934 and the Westminster Seminary from 1934 to 1939. Mr. Heerema's professional career started at the Christian Sanatorium in Wycoff, NJ from 1939 to 1949. From there, he continued his career at The National Union of Christian Schools from 1949 to 1953. He was the Pastor of Plymouth Heights Christian Reformed Church in Grand Rapids, MI from 1953 to 1964 and he retired from the Bradenton Christian Reformed Church where he served as Pastor from 1964 to 1977.

Mr. Heerema moved to Cape Coral in 1977 where he was a member of the Trinity Reformed Church of Cape Coral.

He is survived by his wife Bertha of Cape Coral; two sons, Edward Heerema Jr. and his wife Ruth of Byron Center, MI, and Robert Heerema and wife Valerie, Upton, MA; two daughters, Mary Lynch and husband Michael, England and Joanne Kuder and husband Franz, Linwood, MA; two step-sons, Ken Waldo and wife Pat, Bradenton, FL and Paul Waldo and his wife Cindy, Norcross, GA. Nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 2, 2000 at the Metz Funeral Chapel with Rev. Allen Vanderpool officiating.

The family will receive friends for viewing this evening (Friday) between the hours of 7:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Burial will take place Tuesday at the Oakhill Cemetery in Grand Rapids, MI.

Arrangements by the Metz Chapel of Harvey-Engelhardt-Metz Funeral Homes, Cape Coral, 542-2134.
