Ronald Moore Obituary

Ronald H. Moore 1944 - 2021
Oakdale - Oakdale—Ronald H. Moore (Ron), 76, beloved husband of Nancy (Mach) Moore passed away on Tuesday, April 20. 2021 at the William W. Backus Hospital after complications from esophageal cancer. His family was by his side, as he had stood by them throughout his life.
Ron was born August 16, 1944 in Willimantic to Harvey and Magdaline (Sokolowski) Moore, both of whom predeceased him. Ron had to grow up quickly as his father passed away when he was only eight years old. He attended St. Joseph School in Willimantic and graduated from Windham High School in 1962. He then went to Eastern Connecticut State University, graduating in 1966 and completing his master degree in 1973. It is there that he met Nancy, his wife of over 51 years.
Upon graduation, Ron was offered a job in the Montville School System where he taught for 34 years. Teaching was his calling, as he truly cared for all his students and wanted them to excel. He always joked about having the children of his former students in class. He retired from Montville in 2000. Ron held many other jobs in his lifetime. He also was an adjunct faculty member at Three Rivers Community College, Mitchell College, and Eastern Connecticut State University at different intervals from 1989 through 2010. Besides this he served as University Supervising Teacher from 2000-2004. In addition to teaching, Ron also worked at various jobs at different grocery stores such as Shop-Rite and Stop & Shop, and ended his customer service work at Big Y in Groton, where he worked from 2015 until November 2020. Ron enjoyed many of the customers that he came in contact with on a daily basis. He wasn't one to stay home; he was at his best serving the public.
Ron was instrumental in forming the Knights of Columbus Council # 8903 at Our Lady of the Lakes Church. When his children were growing up, Ron also coached Little League. In addition, he served as Chair of the Democratic Town Committee in Montville for many years and was a justice of the peace in the town.
Ron was passionate in what he believed in, a wonderful husband, and a caring father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by his family and those who knew him.
He is survived by his wife, Nancy; his children, Michael T. Moore and fiancé, Luisa O'Connor of Kingman, AZ; Kristen M. Brackett and son-in-law, Craig; the three grandchildren, who he adored--Baylee, Brooke, and Blake Brackett of Waterford, CT; his mother-in-law, Marie Mach of Oakdale; and aunts, uncles, and cousins.
Calling hours will be from 5 to 8 p.m. on Wednesday, April 28, at Woyasz & Son, 11 Jerome Rd, Montville. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, April 29, at Saint Matthias Church in East Lyme at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Saint Patrick Cemetery in Uncasville.
In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in his memory to the Ronald H. Moore Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Montville High School, Oakdale or to the Salgi Esophageal Cancer Research Foundation, P.O. Box 1912, East Greenwich, RI 02818.
Please follow safe distancing and wear a mask at the funeral home and services.

Mr. Moore was one of my favorite teachers, even if I wasn't his best student. I had seen him working years later at Foxwoods, and he made sure I wasn't in the Finance department. Funny man and wonderful teacher. Rest in peace.

I had the opportunity to be taught basketball by Mr. Moore, then the privilege of coaching basketball at Oakdale School by his side. As I grew, he was always there with praises, chats, telling me I was doing a good job.
As I got older I would see him out and about say "Hi Mr. Moore, he told me to call him Ron.
Well Ron, I will miss seeing you, our chats, laughs, you will always have a place in my heart.

25 years later and I still remember Mr. Moore. He came off as stern and all about business but I could tell he had a good sense of humor and sometimes we'd get into mischief and you could see he was trying to stifle a smile and remain professional. He was a good man and will be remembered by many generations of students.

Mr Moore was truly one of the good ones. I remember him from my time at MHS but also from the neighborhood I grew up in. My dad also worked in the school system and at times would need a ride to or from work and Mr. Moore would always help him out. The one that truly stands out to me was when my dads car broke down on his way home from work and Mr. Moore happened by and helped him get himself and the car home. He truly was a beautiful soul. My heartfelt condolences to his family.

I had Mr. Moore as a math teacher at ECSU. I struggled and hated every minute of it. I wanted to quit but Mr. Moore pushed me to keep at it to work hard. I passed the class and enjoyed Mr. Moore, and credit him for showing me that if I put my mind to it, I could do anything. Mr. Moore was one of my best teachers EVER. Years later I moved to town and bumped into him. I told him how much I appreciated him pushing me and that I would never forget it. Always a gentleman and humble. God Bless Mr. Moore, thank you
