Eric Brueland Obituary

BRUELAND, ERIC NOBLE July 9, 1939 to November 11, 2007
Eric lost his herioc battle with cancer and is now with his beloved son Marc Brueland who died of cancer in October 25, 2003. Eric was born in Fort Dodge, Iowa and joined the Navy at 17. He travelled the world during his 21 year military career, during which time he met his wife of 36 years Georgene. The couple moved to San Diego in 1972 where he served the remaining years of his military career and just recently retired from Hamiliton-Sundstrand Corporation. Unfortunately, his retirement was filled with cancer treatments and hospitalizations. But he never missed the opportunity to get in a few rounds of golf and always listened to the music of Nightwish. Eric is survived by his wife Georgene, beloved daughter Erin Nicole, sister Sonja Shimkus and nieces Diane and Carol, sister and brother-in-law Judith and Harold DeVries and extended family Tuomas Holopainen, Kirsti Nortia-Holopainen and Pentti Holopainen of Finland. In memory of Eric and Marc please donate to cancer research. Their courage was an example for all who fight this disease. Please sign the guest book at obituaries.uniontrib.com

To the Brueland Family,

I am signing your guest book today as a stranger who is only familiar with the name "Brueland" from the many newspaper entries these past few years, and as one who shares the journey in grief. After my loss of my entire immediate family 3 years ago, I started to notice your tributes you wrote each year. When I came across Eric's name a few weeks ago, I felt like I lost a family member, even though we have never met. Funny how grief brings people's souls together. I just wanted to express my sincere sympathy for all you have gone through these past few years. May you find peace and comfort in all the good memories!
