Ervin Harlacher Obituary

Ervin Harlacher

Ervin Harlacher, 88, passed away on December 10, 2017 at Pleasant Valley Hospital of natural causes. He was born in Empire, CA where he lived until age 7 when he moved to southern Oregon. He lived there through his high school years after which he moved to the Los Angeles area. Ery earned a Bachelor's degree and taught journalism at La Verne College. He earned both a Master's degree and a Doctorate at UCLA. He spent many years in college administration. He was the founding president of Brookdale Community College in Monmouth County, New Jersey, a highlight of his career. He served as Chancellor of the Kansas City, MO Community College District and of the Marin Community College District in CA. His last nine years before retirement were spent teaching doctoral students at Pepperdine University.

He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Norma Jo, a son Mark Harlacher of Camarillo, and two granddaughters, Erika Harlacher and Natalie Bize. One of seven children, Ery is survived by one sister, Vera Looney of Yuba City, CA.

A service will be held for family at a future date on Orcas Island, WA where his ashes will be interred.

David and I just heard about Ervin passing away from Sheryl. Sorry to hear about him, we enjoyed our visits with you two at Shilo Inn in Medford .
