Dear Rick, Alexandra, and Richard,
I, too, loved Pat, whose special gifts of love, leadership, humor, and compassion deeply touched me and my family during our shared time at Hackett H.S. in Kalamazoo. We were on several school committees together and shared the excitement of watching our state-champion Hackett boys' tennis team; high school graduation and Grad Bash, and my 50th birthday party.
Thank you, Pat, for sharing your heart and your life with us! We felt a little more loved, and we advanced a little farther on all of our journeys because of you!
Love to all the family!

Dearest Clark Family,
Dan and I are so sad to see that Pat has passed. There are many fond memories we have of our time together while our boys were growing up playing tennis. Also I cherish our time spent on the Grad Bash committee. As the committe chair Pat made the meetings tolerable with her humor, ability to get things accomplished, and of course the snacks and wine she brought to perk things up.
Pat was always very kind to me and I have thought of her often. Our sincerest sympathy to you all.
Fondly,
Cindy Sweeny

Dear Rick,
Though we've neither seen nor spoken to each other for many years, on the Cape, I'd like to join the chorus of those extending their sincere sympathy to you and your family, on the passing of your wife Pat. Your dear friend, Eddie Dunn, relayed the sad message to me yesterday. Having repeatedly read your wife's partial life story, and her mammoth contribution to society, it's obvious that those persons whose lives she touched have lost a true champion. Through this time of enormous sorrow, may it be somewhat comforting, reviewing the fabuloius years you must have shared together.
Most sincerely,
George Doran, Stratham, NH

Dear Clark Family:
Sid and I are so sorry to learn of Pat's departure from this life. Pat and Rick were wonderful supporters of abused and neglected children during their time in Kalamazoo. Pat received both State and National recognition for her dedication as a Court Appointed Special Advocate. I was honored to know her as a friend and to have her appear in my courtroom.

It is difficult to believe that just last July, Pat was working incredibly hard with Joan and Jackie and the rest of the team giving eye care to the poor in rural Haiti for the St. Boniface Haiti Foundation. She had a great sense of humor and never once wavered in her commitment to serve the poor. It was a great reflection of the kind of person that she was and the wonderful family that she came from.
My condolences to her family and friends.

I would like to share a moment I had with Pat last Sunday. My daughter, Catherine, and I were sitting with her at her bedside and she could see the sadness on our faces. She looked right at us, her eyes opened wide and slowly and very definitely said,"People die and its OK, its OK". It was clear she had reached a place we hadn't. This prescient message was certainly meant to give us comfort and I consider it her last gift to us. I am still having trouble with it because missing her will never feel OK, but I believe she did have a special perspective she wanted to share...one of something beyond life ...one that is more than OK.
