Since 1890, the families of Jefferson County and the surrounding area have trusted Ralph Robinson & Son. This trust has never been misplaced. Through the generations, the Robinsons have built a tradition of service, value, giving to our community, and expertly caring for your needs when you need us most. This section contains the heritage, vision, and the people behind Ralph Robinson & Son's reputation of quality, sincerity, and trust. Ralph Robinson originally came to Pine Bluff as a cabinet maker for the railroad. In 1890, he acquired an existing livery stable and opened a cabinet shop above it. Among the many items crafted in that shop, one was a cradle so unique that it’s design was awarded a patent. Ralph soon began making caskets and renting horse-drawn hearses and carriages from his stable and in 1892, established his own funeral service company on Barraque Street in Pine Bluff. After Ralph passed away in 1926, his son Adam Robinson ran the business. During the Great Depression, Adam would often take food, livestock, and other bartered items as payment for funeral services because that was the only way many of his clients could pay. In 1940, Adam passed away at a very young age, leaving the business in the hands of his wife, Emma Wilbourne Robinson. Mrs. Emma brought a certain elegance and sophistication to Robinson's. Although it was very unusual at that time for a woman to run a business, many still speak today of her grace and care for others. Adam and Emma’s son, Adam B. Robinson Sr., came to work with his mother after graduating college and serving in the United States Army during World War II. Together they built our current facility at 807 Cherry Street in 1954 and moved operations from the original location on Barraque in 1955. Adam Sr., who came to be affectionately referred to by many as “Mr. Robinson,” had a great impact on many people. When asked to give a few brief remarks about Mr. Robinson, a long-time friend and employee responded with, “His passion and lifelong dedication to serving the families of our community was tireless. His compassion for every family that walked through our doors was unsurpassed. He was truly a remarkable and admirable man; a true gentleman, wonderful employer, and a kind friend.” Adam Robinson, Jr. started working full-time for the funeral home in the early 1970s. He added two new visitation rooms to the building in 1985 as more people began having visitations at the funeral home instead of their family homes. Adam and his dad, alongside a very gifted and dedicated staff, grew the business by making sure every family served by Robinson's got the attention they needed and deserved. Scott Robinson entered the family business full-time in 2003, making him the 5th generation of the Robinson family to carry on the tradition of service laid down by his forefathers.
