Description
Peterson and Patch funeral home was established as Marr, Reid & Company in 1865. It is one of the oldest continuously operating businesses in Waukegan and Lake County. The firm was located in several locations on Genessee St. until it moved into the present location at 408 N. Sheridan Rd. in 1919. The owners at that time, Frank I. Peterson and William B. Wetzel purchased the Judge Frances E. Clarke home which was built in 1875. One of the largest private residences in the city when it was built, It is an example of the transition from Italianate to Queen Anne styles. The warmth and distinction of the home lends itself well to serve families in their time of need. The original beauty and character of the gracious old home has been scarcely altered since the days when horse drawn carriages brought Waukegan's elite to call, causing it to be listed as historically and architecturally significant in our jet age. William Wetzel died in 1938 and Frank Peterson continued in the operation of Peterson Funeral Home until his retirement in 1949. He then sold the business to William Hudson, Sherman Edwards and J. Willard Etter, his long time employees. Mr. Edwards died in 1972 and Mr. Hudson retired in 1973. Mr. Etter continued to operate the funeral home until his retirement in 1978. At that time Daniel R. Patch, a long time firm employee and Gary H. Marsh a third generation Waukegan funeral director took over the operation of Peterson Funeral Home. Gary H. Marsh died in 1994. The firm continues operation today under Daniel R. Patch and Daniel R. Patch, Jr.

Thank you, from start to finish. The staff was very attentive and kind. My Dad was born, raised, married and had his children in Waukegan. We were so happy to have discovered Peterson and Patch for his celebration of life. The grounds, building and reception area was so beautiful. Our family was so pleased with everything. They handled the obituary, prayer cards, guest book and photo of the respected. Separate area's for refreshments, paying your respects and gathering. Just an overall beautiful setting to celebrate your loved one.

Mom was getting very ill so I started visiting a few funeral homes and had Peterson & Patch on my list but they had to cancel our appointment due to another death. I went to the other appointments but none of them felt like the right place. I called Peterson & Patch and made another appointment. They took me that very same day 30 minutes later. The moment I parked I knew that I had found the right place for my mother... I met Dan and he made us feel like we can have the service just the way we wanted. After talking to Dan I was sure this was the funeral home for mom. I truly cannot say enough about Dan and his staff! We were heartbroken to have lost our beautiful mother. She passed not long after that and they took care of the rest. With only one more meeting they did everything. My mother looked so beautiful! She was angelic ???? The prayer cards were beautiful! The service was great and they made everything we asked for happen. It was a pleasure to have worked with Peterson & Patch on something so difficult to go through. After all of that, they went above and beyond and made me a flash drive of her memories with a beautiful picture on it! It was very touching ???? I will recommend their services to everyone I know that needs them❣️
